Venezuela's CICPC will not lend itself to electoral
campaign
Caracas, 18 Ago. AVN .- Venezuela"s scientific and investigative police CICPC announced it will not
lend itself to make the opposition sector uses homicide figures in the country to obtain votes in the
face of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The police unit announced the statement on the occasion of a political activity called on Tuesday by
the pro-opposition party Voluntad Popular, which is linked to far right sectors. This political party
gathered a group of people and took them to the CICPC headquarters in Caracas to “demand” the
official figures of homicides and other criminal offenses recorded this year in Venezuela.
Voluntad Popular"s “demand” coincides with the agenda being implemented by other pro-opposition
sectors, even media outlets, to exploit the issue of insecurity with the aim to spread panic among
the population and so influence the results of next electoral process.
This political party is leaded by opponent Leopoldo Lopez, who took active part on the coup d"état
carried out against President Hugo Chavez on April 2002. He also took part on the violent acts
organized in prejudice of the National Electoral Council on 2004.
Meanwhile, CICPC officials reflected on the contradiction that entails Voluntad Popular"s “demand”
and the behavior of the media outlets that support the opposition sector.
“If they come here to demand figures, it means they do not have knowledge about it. But, at the
same time, they (opposition) continue releasing crude figures about homicides, affirming those are
officials. So, do they have knowledge or not? They are contradicting themselves barefacedly. It is a
political campaign. It"s clear,” expressed CICPC sheriff Douglas Rico.
In the midst of their electoral campaign, opposition political parties and private media outlets aligned
with sectors of Venezuela"s right-wing use the issue of insecurity as flag. In fact, during the last
weeks, they have been releasing homicide figures accredited to the CICPC and others have no
source at all.
