November 2013
Sports News
Congratulations go to the two Grove Road relay teams who took part in
the Save the Children international 1500m relay event at the end of last
month. We are the 4th highest fundraiser so far. Thank you for all your
donations. The Grove Road first team came 23rd out of the 141 schools
that took part around the world, with a time of 4 minutes and 28 seconds. Our second team came 40th with a time of 4 minutes and 40 seconds which placed them higher than the other Tring schools who competed. (Long Marsden 41st, St Bartholomews 53rd, Bishop Wood 62nd)
Congratulations to Bridgewater School in Berkamsted who came 12th in
the world!
Edward Year 5
Special congratulations also go to Edward Pike in Year 5 who has
been selected for the Under 11s county cricket team. This is a wonderful
achievement. Edward is a very keen cricketer and has been playing at
County and area level for the last 3 years for the under 10s team. Well
done Edward!
Window Replacement
Winter Clothing
As we head towards the
wetter months, we would
like to remind you that every child needs to bring a
coat with them to school as
well as a change of indoor
and outdoor shoes.
I know when many of you
come to school by car it
can be easy to forget, but
the children are outside at
playtime in most weathers,
so appropriate clothing is
essential.

The window replacements are almost complete and
we are looking forward to school routines returning to
normal. All windows should be completed by Friday
15th November, well ahead of schedule. Once the
snagging process is complete, T & B will
close down their compound which they will re
-open after Christmas to begin work on rebuilding the Link which connects KS1 and
KS2.
Funds for FOG
Friends of Grove have registered the school with The
Giving Machine. This is a fund-raising facility that will
cost you nothing but generates funds for the school
every time you make an internet purchase via their
link on our web site.
The Giving Machine is a not for profit social enterprise
company that works to generate cash donations for
schools and charities.
If you are thinking about shopping on-line this Christmas, please consider doing so via the Giving Machine
link on our website. It will not add anything to the cost
of your purchase, but we will get a donation for every
£ you spend.
Over 400 stores are registered and they include Amazon, John Lewis, M&S, Sainsburys, Next, eBay, Argos
and Tesco.
To start giving, simply go to the website, click on the
purple “join” tab and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once registered, which takes just a few minutes, you
can shop on-line as normal via their on-screen links to
each participating store.

Christmas Arrangements
On-line Booking System
Christmas is getting closer so we thought it
might be helpful to outline what we already
have in the diary.

Friday 29th November is the school’s Occasional Day. The
school is closed all day to coincide with Tring’s Festival of
Lights.
Saturday 7th December is the school Christmas Fair. FOG will
be writing to you with details and updates of how you can help
over the next couple of weeks.
Wednesday 11th December is our family carol service at St
Peter & St. Pauls church. We hope you will join us for this lovely Christmas event. Years 1, 2 and 3 will be performing as part
of this Christmas celebration. The service starts at 6pm.
Thursday 12th & Friday 13th December will be the Nursery &
Reception Nativity performances. Details and times will follow
shortly, along with on-line booking arrangements.
Wednesday 18th December is our Christmas lunch. All those
children who usually have Roast Dinner on a Wednesday will
have a Christmas dinner cooked by the kitchen team, while
packed lunch children might like to bring a special lunch box of
festive food. Both dining rooms will be decorated to give the
lunch a festive theme.
Parent View
Our next Ofsted visit is
scheduled for sometime in
the summer term. Ofsted will
ask for your views via the
Parent View website. This
feedback facility is available
all year so please make use
of it if you would like to register your views on the school
and how it runs day to day. It
is a really useful reference
point for us as well.
The feedback regarding the on-line booking
service for Parent Consultations was overwhelmingly positive. As such we have decided
to adopt this permanently to enable us to roll
out on-line booking for performances, clubs
and trips as well. For those of you who do not
have access to the internet we are happy for
you to come into school and use one of the
school computers to book. Just let us know and
we will organise a computer for you to use.
Bookings can be made at

Attendance & Punctuality
Congratulations to all those pupils listed on the back page of this letter who
managed 100% attendance for last half term. 144 children were in school every
day. Well done!
Did you know:
• Missing six days of school every term of every year of a school
career is the same as missing one whole school year of education.
• 95% attendance across the year sounds good, but it means that
your child is missing the equivalent of one day a month.
Sickness Bugs
There seem to be some nasty bugs doing the rounds at the moment and some of you have
asked for clarification regarding our policy on keeping children at home following a bout of
sickness. The children are very generous with their germs and so illness can spread quickly in a school community. For this reason, we ask that you keep your child at home following sickness until they have managed to eat
without vomiting. Although children recover quickly and can appear full of beans after sickness, the minimum
expectation is 24 hours at home once they are eating again after sickness resulting from Migraine or something
similar. However, if they are suffering with any kind of tummy bug we request that children are kept at home for
least 48 hours to reduce the risk of the bug being caught by others.
Don’t forget that a full set of dates, policies and school information are available on our website.
