Analysis
The Idea
The Training Needs Analysis
(TNA) is the basis for systematic
and demand driven personnel
development. The holistic approach of Festo integrates executives into the analysis and
examines the area of operative
tasks and processes as well as
the level of business strategy.
Thus, one-sided views are
avoided, the perspectives of
employees and management are
linked and future challenges are
considered. The TNA supports
the implementation of ISO 9000
standards.
Benefits
• The TNA from Festo identifies strengths and weaknesses in
qualification profiles of indi viduals, teams and divisions.
• It is an important step in the development of effective
training content that is pre cisely tailored to workforce needs and enhances produc tive application of knowledge in the workplace.
• The TNA examines both the potential of each employee as well as the strategic goals of the company.

Business Strategy
The technical knowledge necessary for the workplace is evaluated by means of interviews,
observations and tests. In relevant cases, knowledge of related
tasks, persons and processes
that influence the workplace are
tested as well. Employee selfevaluation and evaluation by
managers complete the assessment.
Interviews with the responsible
managers analyse the training
needs from a business perspective. Strategic questions are for
example: Which business goals
are targeted? Which key performance indicators are measured?
What defined standards have to
be maintained?
Production Process
An inspection of the production
is undertaken to gather information about the processes and
technologies in use. Foreseen
organisational changes and introduction of new technologies are
also captured to identify possible
future qualification gaps.
On completion of the TNA, the
following outcomes are provided:
• Detailed information on the
current technical expertise and
knowledge levels of personnel
measured against their work place requirements.
• An overview of qualification gaps with regard to current
and future work processes and technologies.
• An outline of the possible
impact of knowledge gaps
and qualification potentials on company performance.
On the basis of these results,
concrete follow-up actions are
recommended, a strategic
training plan is established and
the scope and level of training
measures are determined.
This approach ensures that
personnel development matches
strategic requirements and becomes a powerful lever in achieving
business objectives.
