Technip assets in the UK
Technip is key integrated player in the subsea market thanks to its
portfolio of state-of-the-art industrial and operational assets and subsea
pipe technologies.
Evanton Spoolbase
Our pipeline fabrication facility and spoolbase
at Evanton is permanently established in the
Cromarty Firth estuary in the north east of
Scotland, near the port of Invergordon,
approximately 17 miles north of Inverness. It
consists of a 1,300m length onshore spoolbase
facility with a 1,300m causeway extension
providing a safe berthing for the Technip reel-lay
vessels or any other vessels in our fleet.
The Spoolbase was specifically built for the construction of
multiple pipestalks (approx. 1.0km) which can be further
welded into a prepared 2.0km length prior to or during
spooling operations onto Technip’s reel-lay vessels. The
spoolbase has permanently located facilities with ancillary
pipestalk storage racks and roller systems to enable
significant quantities of pipestalks to be prefabricated and
stored onshore and/or on the purposely established
causeway.
Spoolbase features
n
Triple 950m pipestalk storage racks and 1,250m
causeway/pipestalk storage rack.
n
Two production shops – fully mechanised pipe handling,
welding, NDE and FJC.
n
Two fabrication workshops – pipework fabrication, spool
fabrication, testing and maintenance facilities.
n
Warehousing, offices, canteen, and ancillary storage
facilities.
n
Accommodates synchronised/dual spooling to Apache II
and/or the Deep Energy reel-lay vessels.
n
Specifically designed equipment for Pipe-in-Pipe (PiP),
Electrically Trace Heated Pipe-in-Pipe (ETH-PiP) and High
Density Polyethylene (HDPE) lined pipelines.
n
By combining the causeway spooling line and one of the
3,950m landward storage racks, 2km stalks can be spooled.
The spoolbase has an extensive track record in the provision
of Carbon Steel and CRA (Corrosion Resistant Alloy)
flowlines as well as tie-in spool (in single or Pipe-in-Pipe
configuration) fabrication services, pre-fabricated at the
Spoolbase.

department to perform most engineering tasks related to a
flexible pipe project ensuring a sustained level
of engineering excellence is available. It also
works closely with the Group’s centre of
excellence, Product Engineering Department
(PED), in Le Trait, France, who is responsible for
developing new products and innovative R&D.
To-date, our Aberdeen centre has installed
every Flexible Riser in the West of
