Echoes and Reflections: Elie Wiesel`s Night

Echoes and Reflections: Elie Wiesel’s Night
September 29, 2016
8:30 AM - 3:00 PM (8:00 check-in) at Metro ECSU
How do we prepare students to read and understand Elie Wiesel’s Night within
the larger historical framework of the Holocaust? What are some of the moral and
ethical questions that the memoir helps students examine?
The focus of this program will be on materials and instructional strategies available in Echoes and Reflections
and IWitness to effectively teach Night, as well as additional background on the memoir that teachers can
integrate into their instruction.
Participants will:
• Explore the history of antisemitism and ghettos for context prior to teaching Night.
• Examine significant themes of the memoir and resources to support teaching the text.
• Learn effective teaching strategies to help students understand what and why it
happened, and how it relates to difficult issues they face today.
“Possibly one of the best
learning experiences
• Enhance your repertoire of interdisciplinary materials, including artwork, photos,
