Antony CM
(What is significant or
important about what Antony is
saying/doing?)
Antony is clearly using
logic here when
speaking to the
Romans. Caesar left
them money in his will.
Obviously, a man that
leaves money for the
citizens of Rome has to
have their best interest
at heart. Caesar did just
this. Antony is using this
logical argument to win
over the citizens to his
side in hopes they they
see Brutus for what he
really is. A murderer.
Antony CM
(What is significant or
important about what Antony is
saying/doing?)
Using vivid description
and emotional
language, Antony is
hoping that his rhetoric
will help win the crowd
over to his side. He is
so distraught he has to
pause in his speech.
This emotional plea
shows the Romans
how sad Anotny is. By
doing this, Antony
works on the emotions
of the Romans in
hopes they will leave
Brutus and join him.

Brutus uses a logical
plea here with the
Romans. He points out
that Caesar had
become ambitious and
greedy and therefore
he needed to be taken
out. What Roman
wants this kind of
leader? Fact: Caesar
is getting a big head
and ambitious.
Solution: kill him. He
is appealing to the
Romans with this
logical argument.

Winner
(What is significant or

saying/doing?)
(Write down the more
persuasive character (Antony or
Brutus) for the given rhetorical
strategy and explain why they
bested the other.
Brutus is trying to win
over the Romans by
making them fearful
and scared. Who
wants to be a slave?
Brutus tells the
Romans that if Caesar
were still living then
they might all live a life
of slavery to him. Of
course the Romans will
side with Brutus when
they are given this
scenario. Brutus’
emotional plea to the
Romans makes them
glad that Caesar is
dead.
