“Promise me you`ll always remember: you`re braver than you believe

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is back, and the 2015 themes – Every Hero Has a Story for
prereaders through grade 4 and Unmask! for students in grades 5 through 12 -- provide us with an
extraordinary opportunity to consider what it means to be a hero. From the history makers and the
superheroes to the community champions and the unsung heroes, we hope you join us for an epic summer
quest as we encounter heroes of all kinds and perhaps uncover our own heroic potential!

To make the most of your summer library experience, we offer these helpful tips:
Most events and activities require pre-registration. We offer online registration. Simply go to the
library website, www.eldredgelibrary.org, and look for the Calendar of Events. Registration can be
completed from home or from the registration laptop set-up in the Children’s Room. We are unable to
register participants over the phone due to the increased activity in the Children’s Room. Registration
closes 24 hours prior to an event to allow for adequate materials and staffing or to meet a contractual
obligation. If you registered for a program and are unable to attend, please contact a Youth Services
staff member as early as possible so we may fill that coveted spot. Once we are full, a waiting list will
be created. Filling the vacant spot is the responsibility of the library staff; do not offer your spot to
someone else. Unregistered family members or play dates may not attend without prior approval.
Please respect program times. Our contracts have fixed beginning and ending times, and scheduling
restrictions for our meeting rooms and staff members dictate specific time allotments. Please be
courteous, as latecomers are a distraction for both the presenter and the audience. This includes all
storytimes.
Be mindful of age restrictions. Not every program is meant for every age. Grade assignments are
based on the grade your child will be entering in the fall.
Many of our programs offer food and beverages. If your child has an allergy or food concern, please
notify a Youth Services staff member upon registration. We will do our best to accommodate your
child. For the safety of and respect for all our patrons, we will not allow any registrant to bring his/her
own refreshments.
If the library is closed during a scheduled event, the side, rear door will be unlocked. No library
services will be available until regular business hours.
The EPL reserves the right to cancel a program if there are less than 5 registered participants.
While visiting the Children’s Room, children 8 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult
caregiver at all times. Additional policies are posted on the library website: www.eldredgelibrary.org.
For your convenience, we have an infant changing table in the downstairs restroom.
No strollers are permitted in the library, including hallways, lobbies, stairwells, and alcoves.
Parking is always a challenge. Please be mindful of this to ensure prompt program attendance, and do
not block the driveways or mailboxes of our neighbors!
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the support of the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library, all
programs and activities are free.
“Promise me you’ll always remember: you’re braver than you
believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

2015 Collaborative Summer Library Program…Every Hero Has a Story/Unmask!
Tuesday, June 30th to Tuesday, August 18th All Ages and All Reading Abilities Welcome!
Founded in 1987, the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a grassroots consortium of states
working together to provide public libraries with high-quality, low-cost summer reading program materials with
a unified theme. The CSLP goals are many: to celebrate recreational reading, to build upon and reinforce the
skills acquired during the school year, to foster a life-long love of books, reading, and libraries, to recognize the
vital role the public library plays in communities throughout Massachusetts – and to share the summer days
and nights with you and your family!
Sponsored by the Eldredge Public Library, the Friends of the EPL, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts
Library System, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Every Hero Has a Story (for
prereaders through Gr. 4) and Unmask! (for students in Gr. 5 through 12) highlight the extraordinary ability of
books and libraries to transport us to new and exciting places, to explore topics both fresh and familiar, and to
meet heroes of all types – real or imagined – all you need is a library card! Registration for Every Hero Has
a Story and Unmask! begins immediately following our kick-off event with Robert Rivest on Tuesday,
June 30th at 1:30 pm! (There will be no online registration for our summer reading program; you must
register in person.) So, grab your capes and sidekicks, and join us for a summer filled with fun and
excitement!
Summer Reading Kick-off Celebration with Robert Rivest’s “Every Hero Has a Great Story!”
Tuesday, June 30th at 1:30 for Families of All Ages
Comic mime, Robert Rivest leads us on a fun, upbeat journey of everyday heroes, super heroes and heroes
from Greek mythology and popular literature. This highly participatory program gives everyone the opportunity
to learn mime, act out their favorite hero, and help Robert create a new hero and story on the spot.
No registration is required for the performance. Registration for the 2015 Collaborative Summer Library
Program Every Hero Has a Story and Unmask! will immediately follow the performance.

invited and encouraged to attend this annual event to cheer on and support the contestants. 5th graders may
join either group depending on their reading comfort and interests. (Contestants may only participate in one
Jeopardy competition and must compete with a partner.) Registration is required for contestants, and you
must register with a YS staff member. No registration is required to attend the game night.

Summer at the EPL would not be complete without the return of Barn Babies, a traveling petting zoo and oneof-a-kind, hands-on experience. Barn Babies is our most popular program at the EPL. Registration is
required. You may register for one session only. Please note the following guidelines for this program:
• Once sessions are full, call Youth Services to be placed on the waiting list.
• Those individuals with animal allergies must be aware of the nature of this program.
• Once the door is closed for the session in progress, the door remains closed due to roaming animals.
• Please use the bathroom prior to entering the room.
• Reminder: latecomers, though registered, will not be allowed in the room once the program is
underway.
• If you have registered and cannot attend, please call the library as soon as possible, so we can add
someone from the waiting list.
• We are contractually bound to keep the room capacity at a predetermined number in an effort to
maximize the enjoyment and safety of both the children and the animals. Unregistered “guests” who
accompany a registered participant will not be able to enter the room.
• The library will be closed during this program. Entrance to the building will be at the side, rear door,
and you may wait for your session in the adjoining meeting room.
We offer the maximum number of sessions that our budget and animals will allow. We are truly sorry if you are
unable to participate in this special event. Check out the Barn Babies Facebook page to see where and when
the next event is scheduled.
