God Made Me Forget All My Troubles
Do you believe that God is truly in charge of everything? Do you truly believe that God’s ways are better
than man’s ways?
Joseph was sold into slavery, elevated over Potiphar’s estate, put in jail, and now he is the second in
command over all of Egypt.
What has God put you in charge of? Are you faithful with that and do you honor the Lord with that?
Vs 41-43 When we were saved, we were elevated from being a slave to sin and a commoner in life to
having a new identity. We are adopted into royalty.
No matter what your situation, God is in control. No matter what your difficulty, God is in control. No
matter what your heart ache, God is in control. No matter how good things are for you, God is in
control.
Vs 45- Pharaoh gave Joseph a new name along with his new identity. His new Egyptian name is
Zaphenath-paneah. This name is more Egyptian and makes him more integrated into Egyptian culture.
God gives us a new name. We are called Christian. We are no longer of the same tribe as we were
before. We are given then name of our Savior, Christ. We are Christian.
Joseph gets a new wife from a priestly and prominent family. This also helps in his assimilation into the
royal Egyptian leadership.
Vs 47- While Joseph was in charge the kingdom flourished. He looked different, but acted the same. He
was faithful. He was godly.
God had revealed to Joseph that there would be seven years of abundance and there was. When God
says something will happen, we can trust that it will happen.
Do you trust God in what He says? Are you faithful to Him?
Vs 48-49 Joseph was a man of his word and was responsible to store some of the food during this time
of abundance.
In the areas that God has entrusted you and others trust you, are you responsible?
Joseph was not just thinking of himself in all of this preparation. Joseph was saving food up so he
could feed thousands.
Do you live your life thinking of how you can impact others or do you live your life only thinking of
how you can impact yourself?
Vs 50-52 Manasseh means forget. Joseph has tried to move on from his past. Ephraim means fruitful.
Joseph has become fruitful.
When we accept Christ, God gives us His Spirit to help us, convict us, and guide us. Do you bear good
fruit as the result of your master? Do you use this fruit to honor God and uplift others?
When we accept Christ we become a new person. The old has gone. The sin, the past, the old self is
gone. We are a new creation. We are adopted, cleaned up, accepted by a King, and made fruitful.
2 Corinthians 5:16-18
16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in
this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation
When people spend time with you, do you resemble the old and sinful you that you were before you
accepted Christ or do you resemble the new creation that God has made you into?
Your identity in Christ should not be that of your old self. Your identity in Christ should be that of a
King’s son. No matter what you have done, you are cleaned up and elevated and made proper so that
you can come into the presence of God.
Do you hold onto sins in the past? Do you remember hurts that have been done to you and you
cannot get past them? You are freed from your past through faith in Christ as your Lord.
Joseph was sold by his brothers and elevated to second in charge of Egypt. You have been sinful and
wrong and God has given you a new life in Christ. Live as a child of Christ and not as the old man or
women you were.
Do you truly believe that God has done all of this for you? If so, you do not need to be ashamed of your
past. If so, out of thankfulness you need to live for your King. He saved you and blessed you. He is
worthy of your glory and praise.
God delivered Joseph and He has delivered you! Whatever you are going through, give it to Him and He
will guide you through it.
Vs 55- Are you so faithful in the Lord that others come to you or others send people to you? Joseph was
faithful to God and faithful to people.
Do you show faithfulness to God and faithfulness to others or do you mainly serve yourself?
Vs 57- God had protected the Egyptians and the people in surrounding countries.
When godly people are faithful to God it impacts others.
Do you trust in God? Are you faithful to God? Do you have joy since God has elevated you out of your
sin? Do you entrust God with all that is going on in your life or do you try to bear that burden on your
own?
