Company Profile
Polypod was formed to satisfy the increasing demand for greater pre-fabrication in the construction
industry, specifically in the design, development and installation of ‘pod’ units for a wide variety of
formats. The concept of off-site construction of modules or pods for installation at the appropriate stages
of a construction project, first developed in Japan in the 1960s, and is not only more practical, but has
wider cost and time-saving implications. Critical paths in project management of large construction
programmes are reduced significantly and the quality is greatly enhanced, with the ensuing benefits
and savings passed on to developers. Polypod’s aim is to produce kitchen, bathroom and hot press
pods to the highest industry standards while ensuring that they are designed to cater for every aspect of
use in residential, commercial, institutional or hospitality environments. Regardless of size, complexity
or design constraints, Polypod constantly strives for excellence in every project undertaken. Always

kitchen manufacturers, the Polypod process ensures high build quality, uniformity and security without the need for several trades to work on-site.

Solar Powered Hot Press Pods
The logistics of getting perhaps 500 water cylinders (with all the associated pumps, copper piping, cables, switchgear etc.) delivered to the right site at the right time for Hot Presses
in a particular development can be a daunting task. Such difficulties can be easily resolved by using Polypod Hot Press Pods, complete with water cylinder, pump, pipe work and
electrical connection points, an industry ‘first’ which is built to a consistent high quality and signed-off to meet agreed MEP specifications. Batches of fully finished (inside and out)
pod units are delivered on site on agreed dates, locked and secured and covered with a robust weatherproofing material, in readiness for craning into position.
The Polypod Solar Hot Press Pod incorporates
• Client specific water cylinder, typically including dual immersion heaters, thermostatic relays to mass boiler, controller and timer;
• Pre-formed manifolds and connections for ease of access, commissioning and installation;
• Booster pump for supply to all areas;
• Central manifold including MWS stop-cock for the entire dwelling/apartment, ensuring minimal amount of connection on site;
• Fully integrated air extraction system replacing smaller units in kitchen/bathroom/en-suites.

Design and Process (OSM)
Polypod has achieved its position as a major manufacturer in the Off-site Construction sector by

The company is focused on driving the process forward, fully coordinating everything from initial
contact to pod production to hand-over of documentation on completion and delivery. While pods
are designed or a specific purpose, we can also provide a range of standard pods for general
usage. From the architect’s specification, Polypod creates a shop drawing (Part 1) detailing all the
positions of tap ware, sanitary ware, tiling, light fittings and switches, accessories, etc. Part 2 of
the drawings will be an exact representation of the mechanical & electrical services such as wiring
and plumbing routes, cable specifications and dimensions of supply and waste pipes.
Following drawings sign-off, a full-size prototype of the unit is produced by Polypod, after
which all parties involved inspect the pod for final sign-off. From the Pod Schedule, each pod
is assigned a specific numerical code which will be used to ensure that it is placed at the exact
coordinates within the structure.

The connections of hot & cold mains water supplies, waste outlets, extraction fans and electrical
supply are among the critical consderations with bathroom and kitchen design. Through close
liaison with all parties, Polypod acts as a central hub to bring focus to an area which is fraught
with potential problems. The integration of Polypod units into the main structure is a seamless
process, with the finished pods leaving the factory fully fitted-out, fully tested and built to the
exact specification, with every detail considered and checked.

Polypod’s Technical Department underpins the company’s continuing strides for manufacturing excellence.
Shop drawings, for instance, are prepared with painstaking detail, as a small error on paper could cause serious
problems in production or commissioning on site.
Polypod’s benchmarks for Quality Assurance are:

Pod Construction Industry
• Fabrication carried out by trained technical staff to the relevant best industry codes of practice
(e.g. POS EN1011 Part 3) using MIG welding equipment;
• Plumbing pressure tests - all supply lines within the Pod are WRAS-approved, capable of a 10-bar working pressure, tested and certified to 10-bar;
• Electrical tests carried out in accordance with ADWEA and DEWA regulations as well as comply with all relevant IEEE UK and Asian standards. Polypod is registered to issue certificates in this regard;
• All designs tested for light levels to achieve a minimum of Lux 200;
• QA programme involving all staff and not reliant on supervisors’ spot checks. Each stage of Pod manufacture is a progression towards a previously defined standard;
• Active Process Control is used to ensure that specified components are fitted at right time to the right location, achieved with a team benchmark system utilising Polypod’s most valuable resource - our staff.
• Full technical design and compliance with relevant building regulations of project’s country.
• Issue full working shop drawings and maintenance manuals from in house design team. 5 Year general building works warranties for all Pods.
