Players must demonstrate a commitment to the Team and the St Rose of Lima CYO Program. Players must be REGISTERED to tryout for travel prior to the commencement of the tryout date. Wait Listed registrants will be notified if they are allowed to participate in tryouts. Players must be IN compliance with the CYONS Travel Eligibility requirement. Player must pay his/her fees in full prior to participating in the program. Players are required to play at their grade level. Players must play on the team for which they are selected and cannot request specific team placement. For example an “A” player cannot request to play on the “B” team and/or a player cannot request to play for a specific coach. Once a player is ROSTERED (selected to a team), they cannot opt out of playing for that team. If a player chooses to opt out, the player cannot participate in any St. Rose CYO program for the current year. In addition, the player will not be permitted to tryout for Travel Basketball the following year. Earning a position on a travel team does not guarantee an automatic position in future years. All players must tryout in subsequent years. Attendance at practice and tournaments is mandatory, unless the coach permits the absence. Players will attend the annual CYO mass as a team. Grade 8 players must work and participate in the Christmas Basketball Tournament. 1 2.

All coaches will be Virtus Trained and attend the CYO Coaches Sanctioning Workshop. Our coaches are a reflection on St Rose and our ministry. They should handle themselves at all times accordingly. If a coach or player does not handle themselves according to our Moral and Ethical standards, it can result in a suspension and or expulsion from the program. It will be an automatic one game suspension if a coach or player gets two technical fouls during the season. This is cumulative and for the full season. Any future technical will result in additional suspensions and or the removal of the coach or player from the program. Coaches are responsible for the gym during their practice and games. They are required to make sure everyone behaves properly and that there is no food or drinks (only water is allowed, except for St Rose where Gatorade is allowed) allowed into gym. Our goal is for each team to win the CYO sportsmanship award. This is a very prestigious award and is what each coach should strive for. All coaches will attend the annual CYO mass and the St. Rose Annual Il Classico Dinner. Grade 8 coaches must run and participate in the Christmas Basketball Tournament. Responsibilities include finding teams to participate and scheduling. 3.

The St. Rose CYO Travel League begins in the 4th grade with 2 equal “B” teams. A draft is held to ensure both teams are equally competitive. Coach's son/daughter will be slotted in the appropriate round. If both coaches cannot agree who has the first choice, the Travel Director will make that decision. When there is a disagreement the Travel Director will have the final say. The guiding principal for team selection is 2 equal teams. 4th grade is considered an instructional level of play therefore all 4th grade players should have relatively equal playing time. 4th grade teams will play in the CYO Travel League and the St. Rose CYO Intramural Basketball League. 4th grade teams will NOT participate in Island Garden. 4.

Travel tryouts will have Board Appointed members attending and grading tryouts. They will work in conjunction with the coaches to pick the team and will have the final say on the roster. The goal is to pick the top players at each grade level. Based on the size or our program we will strive to have at least 1 “A” and 1 “B” Team. A CYO Officer must approve exceptions to this. We can have 2 “A” teams if the coaches and Board Appointed members who attend the tryouts agree. The Travel Director or CYO Officer will make the final decision. The suggested number of players per team is 11. If there are two “A” teams in the 7th or 8th grade, the suggested number of players per team is 10. The Travel Director or a CYO Officer must approve the total number of players per team. If 2 teams are at the same level, there will always be a draft. When coaches cannot agree on who should get the first pick, the choice will be made by the Travel Coordinator. Many times it cannot be a "coin flip" because of the respective talent of each coach's child. If there are two teams at the same level and one or both of those teams have a below 500 record, one team will drop a level. Example: If we have 2 “B” Teams and one is 7-‐5 and one is 5-‐7, the following year we will have 1 “B” team and 1 “C” Team. CYONS has final say on changes to team levels. “A” Level Teams -‐ a. Will play in the Island Garden League (a minimum 6 game season) and the CYONS Travel League. b. If there are two “A” teams, the Travel Director or a CYO Officer will decide the appropriate Island Garden season. c. “A” players will play in every game and on average for the season will have a minimum playing time of 25% in CYO games and 50% in Island Garden. “B” or “C” Level Teams – a. Will play in the CYO Travel League and the St. Rose CYO Intramural League. Active participation in intramural practices and games is mandatory. . b. “B” or “C” players will play in every game and on average for the season will have equal playing time (50% of the game). Any appeals or changes to the above rules can be approved by Two CYO Officers or an Executive Board Vote. 2
