One reason Craters of the Moon is a special place is because the landscape is covered with lava that cooled a long time ago. Two kinds of lava that are found at Craters of the Moon are called Pahoehoe (paw-hoey-hoey) and Aa (ah-ah). A 1 2 B Pahoehoe is a quick moving lava that flows like syrup. Aa is a slow moving lava that is thick and chunky.
