Celebrations Autumn 2016

Class: Hedgehogs (Yr 1)
Term:
Brilliant Beginning
Sparkling Starter
Fabulous Finish
Over the half term holiday
each child will make a
firework
out
of
junk
modelling materials. These
will be displayed in the
classroom to start our
Firework display.
We will start the topic off by
watching a firework display
on the IWB and use talk
partners to list some words
to describe what we saw.
These words will then be
used to create poems and
creative writing later in the
week. We will also talk about
celebrations we have and
The children will celebrate
Christmas with a party. We
will make decorations, choose
party games and make the
food. We will also invite our
parents to the party to join us
for some fun.
Why?
Live, Love,
This topic has been designed to link with the exciting time of year of Bonfire Night and then Christmas. In addition to
this, our new outdoor area is being constructed during this half term so we wanted to celebrate this much needed area
by learning about play equipment we like to use.
British values
We will introduce British values to the children at the start of the term and will be learning about them in the
following ways;
Democracy - During this topic we will vote on types of party food they would like at their party and also the games
we will play.
The Rule of Law - We will review our class charter and continue to be accountable for our own actions.
Individual Liberty – Children will have the chance to share their own experiences of family celebrations and will
have their views and opinions listened to.
Mutual respect - children will learn to respect each other’s interests and family traditions.
Tolerance – Children will develop their respect for each other’s differences and likes and dislikes.
Rights Respecting Schools
As a Right’s Respecting School we will consider the following rights in this topic;
Article 12: Every child has a right to have their voices heard (see Democracy above).
Article 17: Every child has a right to access correct information.
Article 28: All children have the right to an education.
Article 31. All children have a right to relax and play.
Eco schools
We will be electing our Eco Warriors and thinking about what this means for our school.
