We hope you all had a restful week. We have found that regular practise of mental maths skills at home really has a positive impact on the children’s maths understanding. These activities are a suggestion and you can adapt them for your child if needed. You can also keep practising old homework with your child if they found it particularly enjoyable or if they had some difficulty with it. Thank you! Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher. Mrs Smith, Miss Milton and Miss Harriman Focus: To know some key facts in the 3 times tables. Suggested Activities: 1 Use a Hundred Square to count in 3’s. Key Question: What do you notice about the numbers when you count in 3’s? Can you see/hear a pattern? 2 Write out the 3 times tables. E.g. 1 x 3 = 3 (1 times 3 is 3), 2 x 3 = 6 (2 times 3 is 6) In class we have looked at this using the language 1 x 3 = 3 (1 group of 3 is 3) 3 Draw out multiplication facts as ‘chocolate chip cookies’: 4 x 3 = 12 (4 groups of 3 = 12) Or as an array: 4 x 3 = 12 xxx xxx xxx xxx 4. Use online games, such as www.topmarks.co.uk Under the learning games – select times tables, hit the button. 5. Challenge: Explore counting in 30’s… (we have looked at this in CLIC!) You could write a sequence with missing gaps and get your child to fill in the gaps. They could even write a sequence for you!
