In their English lessons, children are taught to read for meaning and
develop their knowledge of how to gain understanding of different text
types through inference and deduction skills. Also, children are able to
develop their personal interpretation of language and structural features
when studying writers’ craft.

and purpose of their writing before deciding on the form that the writing
will take.

GEOGRAPHY
Pupils will study the global distribution of
volcanoes and earthquakes.
During these chemistry units, children will develop
their knowledge of common materials changing their
state. They will look at both reversible and
irreversible changes. They will understand the
terms soluble & insoluble and be able to separate
substances using a variety of methods such as
dissolving,
evaporating,
condensing
filtration,
chromatography.
The children will be able to develop their
experimental skills by writing full length
investigations. They will make sound predictions and
conclusions and explain how to carry out a fair test.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
HISTORY
The relationship between tectonic activity and
plate boundaries will be studied.
Finally the monitoring, management and
response to these hazards will be studied.

An investigation of one earthquake and one
volcanic eruption that has recently occurred will
be carried out. Pupils will study the effect the

Old Testament: The Ten Commandments and their connection with everyday contemporary life. The relationship

a focus on a particular artist and his style. They will also be introduced to different methods of printing,
techniques of using pen and ink with overlaid wash and
develop their drawing skills using objects on loan from
Reading museum.

During this term, pupils will undertake a variety of enjoyable
and challenging, creative, practical activities to develop their
knowledge, skills and understanding of materials, tools and
