When an aircraft is certificated at the manufacturer, the design requirements stipulate only minimal equipment that should be installed. Prior to operating the aircraft, the owner/operator is required to decide how and where the aircraft will fly and based upon this information decide what operational and emergency equipment should be carried. In the majority of cases, the manufacture of the aircraft and installation of equipment is carried out in parallel so that at the point of delivery, everything is on board. The following information is provided to assist the owner/operator to locate the equipment requirements within the Air Navigation (Isle of Man) Order 2015 (ANO) and determine what equipment should be carried for the operation of their aircraft. The ANO shall be used as the definitive source and for full details of equipment to be carried refer to Part 4, Equipment of Aircraft, Schedule 3 Aircraft Equipment and Schedule 4 Radio communication and radio navigation equipment of aircraft. If the aircraft is flying in a combination of circumstances, the scales of equipment do not need to be duplicated. Flying time in relation to a helicopter should be calculated on the assumption that it is flying in still air at the speed specified in the relevant flight manual as the speed for compliance with regulations governing flights over water. In the Schedule “day” means the time from half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset (both times exclusive), sunset and sunrise being determined at surface level. Some of the items of equipment do not need to be approved by the Department; these items can be found in the ANO, Schedule 3 Aircraft Equipment, paragraph 3; Aircraft Equipment – Aeroplanes and Helicopters – ANO reference Item of equipment ANO Schedule ANO Scale Spare fuses Maps, charts and codes First aid equipment Hand fire extinguisher Altitude alerting system Safety belt, safety belt with diagonal shoulder strap, safety harness, child restraint device 3 3 3 3 3 A A A A AA 3 B Registry Publication 25 1 May 2015 1 Item of equipment Lighting equipment for displaying lights, electrical equipment for illumination Slip indicator, turn indicator, gyroscopic bank & pitch indicator, gyroscopic direction indicator, sensitive pressure altimeter, magnetic heading equipment Slip indicator, turn indicator, gyroscopic bank & pitch indicator, gyroscopic direction indicator, sensitive pressure altimeter Radio altimeter Timepiece, equipment to manage power supply to gyroscopic instrument, Rate of climb and descent indicator, equipment to calibrate outside air temperature, airspeed indicators Landing lights, electrical lighting system for illumination, electric torch, parachute flares, Landing light Lifejacket(s) Flotation equipment, parachute distress rocket signals, anchor/sea anchor, sound signal equipment Liferafts, equipment for liferafts Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) Oxygen, portable oxygen supply and associated equipment Ice formation prevention equipment Radar set Four channel cockpit voice recorder, flight data recorder, combined cockpit voice recorder/flight data recorder Eye, nose and mouth protection equipment/portable equipment for flight crew Vibration health monitoring system Underwater sonar location device Survival equipment Registry Publication 25 1 May 2015 ANO Schedule ANO Scale 3 C 3 D 3 E 3 EE 3 F 3 G 3 3 GG H 3 J 3 K 3 KK 3 L1 Part 1 and 2 and L2 3 M 3 O 3 P and S and SS 3 R 3 SS 3 T 3 U and V 2 Item of Equipment Cosmic radiation detection equipment Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) Emergency lighting systems ANO Schedule ANO Scale 3 W 3 X 3 Z Radio Communication and Radio Navigation Equipment - Aeroplanes and Helicopters – ANO reference Item of Equipment Radio communication equipment Radio navigation equipment Secondary surveillance radar equipment including a pressure altitude reporting transponder Antenna (diversity) Radio communication and radio navigation equipment including automatic direction finding equipment (ADF), distance measuring equipment (DME) and VHF omni- range (VOR) equipment Distance measuring equipment (DME), duplicated VHF omnirange (VOR) equipment, 75 MHz marker beacon receiver Airborne collision avoidance system Registry Publication 25 1 May 2015 ANO Schedule ANO Scale 4 A 4 D and G 4 E2 and E3 4 EE 4 F 4 H 4 J 3
