Chennai Floods: Heaviest Rainfall in 100 Years The heaviest rainfall in over a century has caused massive flooding across the city of Chennai in India. Chennai is reeling as major floods have left many people stranded and short of supplies. The floods have caused an erratic power supply with some areas completely in the dark. Mobile services are also badly hit. Airports, railway stations and roads are all underwater. The city’s business has taken a big hit with many companies, including major IT firms, forced to shut their offices in Chennai. Employees of several companies were stranded at their offices owing to incessant rains and flooded roads. Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu have battered one of the country’s largest auto manufacturing hubs and forced plants to shut production and deliveries from the region.
