Christmas Eve Christmas Day 8.00pm: CANDLELIT COMMUNION 9.00am: HOLY COMMUNION (said) 10.00am: CHRISTMAS FAMILY SERVICE Come and bring a present to show everyone! Happy Christmas! Mike returned to the UK after a week in Tacloban City, Philippines, leaving the team there to carry on the good work they began with the FIRST Response Radio (FRR) station. The decision was made early on that different teams would rotate in so a new team has taken over now. We waited a while before sending out this update, so that Mike could get his feet back on the ground and assess what happens next. A full newsletter will be coming out shortly, but we wanted to thank you for your prayers and support. Brigit left to come back to the UK on the same day that Mike and the team left to go to Tacloban (Nov 13th). Despite a rocky start, with Mike and another team mate being 'bumped off' a flight, the whole team eventually reunited in Cebu before boarding their final flight to Tacloban, with all their luggage, the radio station 'kit' and an initial consignment of 200 solar radios to give away, camping gear and food for 2 weeks. They were able to establish a 'base camp' in the City Hall - and had the radio station up and running by 9am the next day. They were the first 'emergency radio station' on the air there. Since then the station has been running 24 hours a day, liaising with the UN, NGO's and local government to broadcast critical information to the community. FRR has responded to 14 disasters since 2004 and Mike has been to 4 of them, but he says it is the hardest disaster response he has ever been involved in. The situation looks as bad as after the 2004 tsunami. Since he got home he has been monitoring what has been happening, and continues to liaise with other aid agencies in Tacloban. The station will continue to operate until DEC 26th. Please pray for the teams on the ground, that they will finish well. There have been several very positive reports about First Response Radio which you might be interested in looking at: http://www.voanews.com/content/relief-radio-station-signals-dire-state-of communications- in-taclobanphilippines/1796148.html#hash=relatedInfoContainer http://www.irinnews.org/report/99132/life-saving-radio-begins-broadcastingin-typhoon-hit-%20tacloban There will be more details, and photos coming out in our newsletter soon.
