EDUCATION SERIES
BOOK OF THE MONTH
Miles For Memories
“At age 74, Jeff left the West Coast and began a
bicycle ride across the great breadth of Canada.
Four months and 8248km later, he successfully
completed his dream at Cape Spears, NL. He is
likely to be one of the oldest Canadians to
accomplish this outstanding feat. His goal; to
raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and to celebrate
the wonderful years his family had together.”
THANK YOU MAXIMILLIAN’S IN PERTH FOR
BEING PART OF OUR DEMENTIA FRIENDLY COMMUNITY
Congratulations to Maximillian’s Restaurant in Perth on becoming Dementia Friendly.
A survey was done with caregivers and people with dementia asking them what it is they
need to have happen in their community to make life easier. Here are a few of their
answers:
Respect and dignity
Inclusion and feeling of belonging
Awareness of drivers on public transit and tours
Education and awareness of businesses
Restaurants – parking, atmosphere, education, signage and menus
Safe environment
The Alzheimer Society Lanark Leeds Grenville is offering free education to businesses,
services clubs, churches and all other organizations so our communities can become
Dementia Friendly.
A few of the topics we will cover during the education are; What is Dementia, How Can I
Help to Make Them Feel Welcome and How to Approach Someone with Dementia. When
this has been completed, the business will receive a Blue Umbrella sticker to display in
their window to signal that they are a dementia friendly business/organization.
If you would like to book a training session or require further information please contact
Robin Hull 866-576-8556 ext. 221 or [email protected]

Dementia is on the rise and we need your help to make a difference in the lives of people living with the disease and
their care partners.
There is still time for you to help make a fully funded Dementia Strategy for Ontario a reality.
Senior members of the provincial government are hearing from thousands of people from all over Ontario that feel we
need to support Ontarians living with dementia and their care partners and it should be a priority. We have met with
MPP Clark and MPP Hillier and they are adding their voice to the growing numbers. There is still a window of
opportunity for you to contact your member of parliament (MPP) and ask them to support the allocation of the
necessary funding to help people living with dementia.
Click here to contact your MPP now.

Now is the time to make a positive impact on people living with dementia and their families.

Have you ever been lost in an unfamiliar place?
It can be distressing. Maybe you were lucky enough to
have a friendly stranger help you find your way.
For someone with dementia, becoming lost isn’t just
distressing’ it can be dangerous.
For many of them, it happens without warning.
Familiar surroundings may suddenly become strange
to them and they become unable to find their way
home. Many are seniors, but a large number are not.
That’s why it’s so important to offer our help when we
come across someone who seems lost or confused.
