Our term theme is `Adaptations`- so find out what `adaptation` means

Our term theme is ‘Adaptations’- so find out what ‘adaptation’ means and bring your
ideas to school at the start of term 3. Our focus is on ‘Fur, Feathers and Coverings’.
Team Visit to Botanic Gardens
We have a special trip planned to Auckland Botanic Gardens in
Manurewa on 28 August to learn about bird adaptations. We welcome
parent helpers on this trip – 3 helpers for room 25, and 5 helpers for
rooms 10 and 16. A letter about this trip will go home in week 2.
Class Blogs
We are looking to strengthen our connections with home through our class blogs.
Teachers will be posting a
range of photos, videos
and information about
your child’s learning each
week on the class blog. It
would be great if you
would read your child’s
blog and give him/her
positive feedback.
The children also learn how to give each other positive feedback – important skills for
developing digital citizenship.
Above are 3 tips for feedback. The children really enjoy getting positive encouraging
feedback from their audience.
Kiwi Sport
Kiwi Sport / Sport Waitakere coaches come to teach the MovenMprove programme
for 5 weeks, starting 22 July. The children will then continue with their PE and
Health programme through gymnastics in the school hall.
Maori Language Week - Te kupu o te wiki (The word of the week)
Maori Language week is the first week of term. There will be a visit from the
Avondale College kapa haka group who will be performing at Friday’s assembly. There
will be activities planned in class to support learning of te reo maori.
Week 3 is Peace Week and week 4 is Mathematics Week so there will be some
special events taking place at school.
There will be more exciting science activities happening too, so keep reading our
school newsletters and checking in on your child’s class blog.
Mahikainga (Homework)
Reading
Books are sent home every day so please support your child by reminding
him/her to bring a book bag to school every day. Big brothers and sisters as
well as parents make excellent support people for hearing children read.
A poem or a whakataukī (Maori proverb) may be sent home to learn on
Fridays.
Spelling and Basic Facts
Spellings and basic facts are given to the children to learn for a test each week.
School Website: www.rosebank.school.nz
The school website is full of helpful links to support children’s learning beyond the
classroom. If you have an email address, please inform the office so newsletters can
be emailed to you. You can also ‘like’ our Rosebank School Facebook page to keep upto-date with recent events. http://facebook.com/RosebankSchool
