Bad breath (halitosis) is a common problem in the UK that affects most people at some point in
their life. It is estimated that one in four people has bad breath on a regular basis.i Bad breath is
caused by bacteria in the oral cavity, around the teeth and in the gum pockets, as well as in
crypts on the back of the tongue. When these bacteria break down food particles, malodorous
volatile sulphur compound gases (VSCs) are formed and these cause bad breath in the exhaled
air. Bacteria in the mouth area are naturally occurring and essential for good health. CB12 boost
contains zinc which inhibits and reduces the formation of VSCs in the oral cavity which results in
fresher breath.ii,iii The effect of CB12 is on the gases, not the bacteria, a key differentiator from
other products.
Bad breath
 “Morning breath”, which affects practically everyone, is caused by reduced saliva
production, which leads to changes in the bacterial flora in the mouth
 Bad breath develops when bacteria around the teeth, gums and on the tongue combine
with saliva and food in the mouth, breaking down food particles and proteins
 Bad breath can also be caused by poor oral hygiene, inflammation of the gums
(gingivitis), loosening of the teeth (parodontitis) or dryness of the mouth. Certain
medications and stress may cause the production of saliva to decrease, in turn, leading to
bad breath
 Many people with bad breath are unaware of the problem, as people have a capacity to
be accustomed to their own odours.
