Mahalo for your consideration, Carolyn Monday, May 5, 2014 Serigraph Prints “Bear Dancer” and “Community Bear Dance” are the titles that describe these two serigraphs created by Pit River/Paiute artist, Jean LaMarr. These two exceptional prints have been part of my personal California Indian art collection for the pass thirty-years. I purchased these rare finds in the 1980s at a Indian Women’s Conference from a print seller. What drew me to these prints was the artist’s composition and use of a minimal color palette. To me, Jean really captured the ceremony and social interaction of the “Bear Dance” and her use of copper adds an elegant design element that brings a quality of brilliance to each print’s aesthetics. Jean LaMarr in my option was ahead of her time as a printmaker in the 1980s. I showed these prints to an art dealer friend and he was surprised that they were thirty-plus years old. He felt they were in great condition and very current in style when compared to today’s silk screen technology. Both prints are mounted on foam core and framed by a 3/4 inch brown mat board.
