February brings a time for
love and close relationships within families and in
the school environment.
Families are encouraged to
take the time to share, love,
talk, and find activities to
do together.
We have a busy month as
noted on February’s school
calendar. Please note the
floating early dismissal day
from February 3rd to the
10th. No School on February 20th.
Parent reminders: Talk
with your child in complying with school rules. We
are having a lot of reported
incidences in where students have to be talked to
and reminded of the school
rules.
Thank you for a job well
done and to those who attended the Parent-Teacher
Conferences last month.
Our staff give your child
the best educational opportunities through Common
Core State Standards,
Hands-on learning, Textbooks and Workbooks. If
you have questions regarding your child’s class progress, please speak to their
teachers. The Educational
Tech committee is conducting the Valentine’s Day
Penny Vote for King &
Queen and Prince & Princess. More information will
be forthcoming. Lastly, we
are beginning the NM Annual Testing Program for all
students. On these days,
please make sure your
child gets enough rest.
Mrs. Pedro, Counselor will
be providing more information on the testing programs and dates.
Finally, attached is a letter
from Mr. Casey Sovo to
Governor Kurt Riley regarding the request of the
Tribe to postpone their
existing conversion application to Tribally Controlled Grant School until
July 1, 2018. If you have
questions, please contact
me at 552-6671.

Wow! It’s February already and can’t believe the
month of January came and

down here at school, already nearing the end of
our 3rd nine weeks in
about one month. It is very
important that students
attend school daily as there
are not very many days of
school left. Our teachers
are busy working hard to
prepare the students for

Tips On How to Motivate Your Kids To Do Homework
Many parents have tried to get their children to get their homework done
when they get home. It sometimes seems like a never-ending struggle. But
try these tips….maybe these might work.
Tip #1.
Eliminate the word homework from your vocabulary. Replace it with “study
time.” Have a study time instead of a homework time. Have a study table
instead of a homework table. This word change alone will go a long way
towards eliminating the problem of your child saying, “I don’t have any
homework.” Study time is about studying, even if you don’t have any
homework. It’s amazing how much more homework kids have when they have
to study regardless of whether they have homework or not.
Tip #2.
Establish a study routine. This needs to be the same time every day. Let your
children have some input on when study time will occur. Once the time is set,
try to stick to that schedule. Kids thrive on structure even as they protest. It
may take a while for the routine to become a habit. But persist. By having a
regular study time you are demonstrating that you value education.
Tip #3.
Keep the routine predictable and simple. One possibility includes a five
minute “warning” that study time is approaching, bringing their current
activity to an end, clearing the study table, emptying their back pack of books
and supplies, then beginning.
There are more tips, but we’ll work on these for now.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
Testing time is here once again! In order to help prepare your
student/s there is one thing you can do:
READ….READ…..READ…..READ!!
The more you read to your child the better they will be prepared for
any kind of test or any type of assignment in their class! Read 10 to 15
minutes a night: have your child read to you and you to them. Ask
them questions about what they read. Have them write a short
summary of what they read. Make it fun and enjoyable!
