Psychiatry Interest Group Board Members
2016-2017
Christina Roberts graduated from University of South Dakota (USD) with a
major in biology and minors in Latin and mathematics. Christina became
interested in psychiatry while at USD when she worked as a mentor with Big
Pal Little Pal as well as for honors students and incoming freshmen. She
discovered that she loved working with people and talking through issues. She
also discovered the need to combat the stigma surrounding mental health.

Christina’s favorite thing in the world is food. She has taken culinary classes
(even in Italy!) and loves to try new restaurants. Christina is from Omaha, NE
and graduated from Westside High School.
Kimberly Clawson graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with a major
in psychology & biology.
In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys traveling, reading, hanging out with her adorable
dog.

Travis Schreier graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a major in
biochemistry and minors in computer science, business, and chemistry. Travis
became interested in psychiatry because he likes the ability to have a longer time to
talk to patients and really get to know them and understand their problems.

Travis likes to play tennis and volleyball, watch Netflix, and play board games with
friends and family. Travis is graduated from DoverEyota High School in Eyota,
Minnesota.
Jake Wardyn graduated from Hastings College with a major in biology. Jake
participated in a program at UNMC sponsored by the Behavioral Health Education
Center of Nebraska (BHECN) while an undergraduate that exposed him to mental
health and the stigma associated with mental illsness. As a 2nd year medical student,
Jake shadowed Dr. Wengel and realized he had a real interest in psychiatry. Jake is
the youngest of four boys.

In his spare time, Jake likes being active, working out, playing basketball/football, and
watching sports.

Constance Mietus graduated from University of Pennsylvania with majors in biology
and psychology and a minor in chemistry. Constance believes that the mind is the
most critical component to a patient's health. Regardless of the specialty a physician
pursues, it is important to understand and respect the health of the mind in order to
offer patients the best outcomes possible. Constance is a student in the UNMC
MD/PhD program and is currently working on her PhD.

In her spare time, Constance enjoys traveling, experiencing contemporary art,
bicycling, running, dance, and yoga.

Joseph “Joey” Aloi graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a
major in psychology and minors in chemistry and music. Joey became interested in
psychiatry while studying the biological basis of emotions and motivation during his
undergraduate research in autism. Joey is a student in the UNMC MD/PhD program
and is currently working on his PhD under Dr. James Blair at the Boys Town Center
for Neurobehavioral Research. His research interests include cognitive/affective
neuroscience, computational neuroimaging, social cognition, and imaging genetics.

In his spare time, Joey enjoys computer programming, basketball, Yoga, and jazz

Lisa “Kemper” Schumacher graduated from Swarthmore College with a major in
chemistry. Kemper became interested in psychiatry when she discovered her
interest with neurology and realized she was very interested in learning more about
addiction. During her M-3 psychiatry rotation, the magic came to life and she found
she was energized at the end of the day which led her to fully embrace her interest in
psychiatry. In her spare time, Kemper enjoys running, working out, writing poetry,
spending time with friends, and hanging out at her favorite coffee shop.

Brianna Harder graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with a major in
biological sciences and psychology and a minor in humanities in medicine. Brianna
says she has always been very interested in mental health and PsIG seemed like a
great way to get involved and learn more.

Emily Maguire graduated from Wayne State College with a major in psychology and a
minor in biology. Emily says she has always found mental health to be fascinating
and really enjoys the medical aspect of it.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys camping, hanging out with friends and family, and
refinishing old furniture. Emily is from David City, NE and graduated from Aquinas
High School.

Val Tran graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in
Biomedical Engineering. Val became interested in psychiatry when he spent two
years at the National Institute of Mental Health (Bethesda, MD) and it lit the sparks.
In his spare time, Val enjoys calligraphy, table tennis, and badminton.

Jenny Oligmueller graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with a
major in psychology and minors in sociology and chemistry. Jenny became
interested in psychiatry in elementary school and has shadowed a psychiatrist since
high school. She is confident she’s chosen a profession that she will enjoy every day.
Jenny is the youngest in her family and has an older brother and sister. In her spare
time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, painting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and playing
yard games, as well as basketball, volleyball, and softball. Jenny is from Homer, NE
and graduated from Homer High School.

Ryan Hafner graduated from Creighton University with a major in psychology and a
minor in biology. Ryan became interested in psychiatry when he attended the
annual BHECN Mentorship Dinner last year and met many behavioral health
professionals. Ryan is looking forward to coordinating this year’s dinner and
expanding mentorship opportunities for first-year medical students, as well as
undergraduate students.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys music and the outdoors. He has played saxophone for
years and his next goal is to work on guitar. Ryan thinks one of the most perfect days
is spent dockside fishing with friends.

Lindsay Leikam graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a major in
biochemistry and minors in math, chemistry, and psychology. Lindsay became
interested in psychiatry after participating in the required psychiatry clerkship during
her third year of medical school when she realized that mental health was her
favorite part and the most crucial part of patient interviews and clinical experience.
Lindsay says she always loved pediatrics, but decided to pursue child & adolescent
psychiatry as children's mental health became her passion.

Her family consists of her younger sister, Courtney, who is also her best friend.
Courtney and Lindsay’s parents live in Lincoln. Other members of the family include a
2 year old pekingese/poodle/shih tzu mix named Luna and a hedgehog named Hugo.
In her spare time, Lindsay enjoys reading, watching Grey's Anatomy and Parks &
Recreation on Netflex, running, hiking, spending time at the pool or lake, playing
mini-golf, and attending concerts and music festivals.
Lindsay is from Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln Southwest.
