EXMOUTH RESIDENTS SCOOP DREAM GETAWAY
Five People’s Postcode Lottery Players win £5k Dream Holiday each
Five lucky players from Exmouth are delighted this week after their postcode, EX8 2HT, was drawn
as a winner of this month’s Dream Holiday, thanks to People’s Postcode Lottery.
Patrick Whelan, 27, who plays with three tickets, won three Dream Holidays worth a total of
£15,000. “This win is unbelievable, I am still in shock,” said Patrick.
“The Dream Holiday win couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Patrick. “I have been saving to go
to New York for a while now and was planning to book it in the next few weeks. Now I can just use
the vouchers to pay it all off straight away,” he continued.
Patrick, a pharmacist, will be going to New York with his girlfriend, Catherine, 25, in December.
Patrick said, “This win will mean that we can have the holiday of a lifetime.” Patrick continued, “We
will be able to stay in a nicer hotel and see more shows; things that we couldn’t have afforded
before.”
New York won’t be the only dream getaway for Patrick as he will be able to use the rest of his
vouchers for future holidays. “We usually go to places like Spain or Turkey but now we will be able to
visit different places,” Patrick said. “I have only lived in this postcode for six months, it must be my
lucky postcode!” laughed Patrick.
Jane Robinson, a community care worker, has just celebrated her 60th birthday in January and said, “I
vowed that this would be the year that I experience new things and see the world and now I can.”
Jane has four children, one of who has lived abroad for many years. “My son, Stephen, works in
Thailand and I don’t get to see him very often as it is too expensive to travel. Now that I have won
the Dream Holiday prize I’m able to book my trip to visit him.”
“I have been thinking about going to Venice recently so that is definitely on my list of places to visit,”
said Jane. “Whenever I go on holiday, I have to sacrifice other things to be able to afford it. I won’t
have to do that now,” Jane continued.
A third winner, Gladys Vickers, 89, only started playing People’s Postcode Lottery in December and
was shocked to hear she had won so soon. “I have only ever won £25 in my whole life and that was
in 1957!” laughed Gladys.
Gladys, a retired telephonist and receptionist, said, “I signed up because I wanted to support
charities which ensure people benefit even if I didn’t win.”
Gladys will be sharing her prize with her two daughters, one son and two grandchildren. “My family
are all coming over for mothering Sunday so I will surprise them then,” said Gladys.
The other two winners weren’t available when People’s Postcode Lottery announced the win so they
will get a nice surprise when they receive their Dream Holiday vouchers in the post.
As a charity lottery, players have raised £63.6 million for charities and good causes across Great
Britain and internationally. One local charity to receive funding is Life Education Wessex, receiving
£5,500 from players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their Healthy and Happy for Life project. Life
Education Wessex provides unique health and drug prevention education to children aged 3 to 13
and addresses social issues and pressures facing children as they make the transition from childhood
to adolescence.
