our MY YOUR HIS her HIGH SCHOOL Experience “The Things I Wish I Knew” By: Thalia Diflo No one ever has a perfect four years. You can ask half the people in my class and the majority of them will say, “God high school was hell.” I think that’s a little over dramatic. It is my last week of senior year and I feel refreshed. I feel like I can do anything with my life at this point. I’m at my highest point. Although the memories high school has given me aren’t the best, I am forever grateful. Theses were NOT the best four years of my life, but I definitely won’t forget them. To think, at times I thought my life was going to stay miserable FOREVER. To anyone that is in high school and is thinking that it’s not even worth it anymore, I promise IT IS. I want to show you a few reasons why I prefer living. I’m happy when I eat fresh fruit, when I burst out laughing, when I discover a new song, when I finish a good book, when I fall in love, when I wake up and the sun is shining through my window, and I have hot water in the shower. I love being able to watch the seasons change with my own eyes. I love having food on Thanksgiving and gifts on Christmas. I’m happy I have the ability to travel and have a good education. I’m flattered when people compliment me, when people smile at me, when people are nothing but nice to me. There are so many things that make life so simple and sweet and thinking about them more rather than the bad things is why I AM HAPPY. I don’t, and YOU don’t have time to be sad everyday. Why be mad at the world when you have every reason to be happy? I really hope you don’t forget that even though life stinks, you will have plenty of moments that will make you forget the hard times. Embrace your innocence while you can and stop trying to grow up too fast. Everyone needs to know how to have fun with their friends, and do things they’ve never done before. This is a time where you learn about yourself and others. High school isn’t hell, I promise. Please remember this because these are the things I wish I knew from the beginning. High school By: Darian Bracamonte It’s nothing like the movies… It’s not like the books… It’s a place we’ll never forget… A place to get our life on set… Where we can find new friends… Where we shouldn’t have to pretend… To become stress, just to be the best… To learn from our mistakes… To fix our problems… So in the end we can be good… A place where we can join clubs… To march in the band… To learn to take a stand… And who should we thank... Thank our teachers and our parents… For they believed we could do it… To learn and see, what we’re made of… To stand by us threw it all… When we felt like giving up… When we felt like failures… And when we felt proud… Now we are in red and white gowns… For we survived the four years that some people can’t.. High school. Do you want to join a sports team? All across the country, every high school has a sports team you can join. Why join a sports team? - having fun with friends. making new friends Developing “The Perfect High School Experience” Editorial by: Neysia Howard What is the perfect high school experience? Does that even exist? I mean no two people are the same, and we all have different perceptions of the word ‘perfect.’ My definition is everything falling into place in just the right way. When something is thought of as perfect, it’s pictured as something flawless. In truth that just doesn’t exist. Everything and everyone has flaws. You cannot go through high school perfectly! You’re going to run into some bumps along this winding road. It’s inevitable. You’re definitely not going to look back on these four years with no regrets. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is going to have some type of regret during their time in high school. Its different for everyone, from not asking Sally to the prom or not studying for your Chemistry exam. To have a perfect high school experience, you do not have to be ‘that girl’ or ‘that boy’. Popularity is just another label, and, trust me, you don’t have to be popular. Having your head in the book the entire time wont get you anywhere either. I know what you’re thinking now, “Why is this so hard?” “What am I supposed to do?” The answer to those questions is simple. Be yourself. Don’t fall into these pointless cliques that wont mean anything 10 years from now. Be friends with all kinds of people! Nerds, Jocks, Hippies, everyone has to go through the same thing. ,Why not make some friends while you’re here? As long as you’re friendly to everyone, the same thing will happen to you. Those people you call friends now, may not be there when you need them. So if you find a true friend, hold onto that friendship and never let it go because people like that don’t come around often. Be responsible. Learn a few lessons. Make mistakes. Create memories. These four years are going to fly by. It’s up to you to make something out of it. There isn’t a yellow brick road or a path to the right experience. You make your own, perfectly imperfect four years. “It All Starts With Freshman Year” By: Derek Williams My freshman year was really cool, I never knew I would have a good time at school. Basketball was the best part, My mom always told me to play with heart. I didn’t do too well with my grades, I didn’t like homework, I would always come to school wearing basketball shorts, And all I ever worried about were the basketball courts. Senior year is a way to come, And now that I think, Freshman year was dumb. I was so immature back in the day, All I wanted to do was mess around and play. The next step is college, Then after that, the NBA, But it all starts with freshman year. Celeb’s high school experience Article by: Audie Arellanez Celebrities haven’t always been the cool kids. They went to high school like the rest of us, and had as hard of a time as we did . From drama kids to geeks, here are some celebrities before they hit the lime light. Christina Hendricks: Had the worst high school experience ever. She quoted ‘’ I was a bit of a goth with purple hair and I was in the drama group so my friends and I were all weird theatre people and everyone just hated us’’. Taylor Swift: “The whole reason I started writing songs was because I was alone a lot of the time. I would sit there in school and hear people say, ‘Oh my god, this party that we’re going to is going to be so awesome on Friday. Everyone’s invited except for Taylor.’” Lady Gaga was teased for being ugly, having a very big nose, and being very annoying. Kids would call her “weirdo!” Megan Fox: When she was fifteen everybody knew that her aspiration in life was to become an actress. “One girl came to school on Halloween in a black leather cat suit and everyone thought she was cat woman. She answered, ‘No I am Megan Fox.’ She was making fun of me. I didn’t say anything to her. I was really shy.” Zac Efron: “I wasn’t a heartthrob at school; I was a geek. I was into musical theater, which isn’t perceived as the coolest thing. There were guys who were 6’ 1” with beards and big muscles, and I was a gawky 17-year-old, a skinny, awkward kid. I was a late bloomer. Growing up was hell.” http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelhorner/20-celebrities-that-werent-cool-in-school ScH00L SuPPLieS StUc0 SaLe SALE! $30 BACKPACKS 10 CENT FOLDERS SALE $5 FOR 100 PENCILS Call the front office for more info! 674 Tel: 520 8364 TARGET w o H r o s s e f o t Pro e d i u G s ’ d ar T C E F R E P E H T L O O H C S H G I H E C N E I R I P EX advice from pro fessor Howard on any hig h school scenario you can think of!
