Ver.1.2 6-15-2013 Serengeti Grazing Since the invention of barbed wire, finding nutritious forage in the hot, arid regions of the United States has been a challenge to both ranchers and dairy producers alike. Through an extensive study, the Serengeti Grazing Method was born. This method focuses on recreating the natural grazing benefits of the Serengeti. Bermuda grass is manipulated to grow as it does in its country of origin, Africa. It is proving to be the most palatable, nutritious, and economically beneficial grass for livestock production in tropical and subtropical climates. In Africa, the evolution of this plant species evolved as a heavily grazed forage. Animals of all types would graze on this forage. Shoulder to shoulder, day after day without migrating during the rainy season. This created a natural life cycle which benefitted the soil, the plant, and the animals. The Serengeti method operates around 5 simple principals: Irrigation Dung Beetles Natural Organic Compost Fertilizers African Grasses No Chemicals 1. Irrigation - we create a monsoon condition to mimic the natural rains of Africa. 2. Healthy Dung Beetle population - Dung beetles bore and bury cow patties up to 8 feet deep into the ground and allow for water to easily penetrate into the soil. This promotes a deep, strong, and healthy grass root system. During this process, parasite and worms are buried within the soil where they die. This virtually eliminates the need for chemical injections to the livestock. 3. Natural Organic Compost Fertilizer - In addition to the cattle dung fertilizer, we also deploy a proprietary compost mixture into the irrigation system to promote rapid growth of the grasslands. 4. African Grasses – African grass hybrids are used for their unique properties of being especially resistant to heavy grazing, while staying rich in nutrients and extremely lush. 5. No Chemicals – Our natural grazing method eliminates the need for harsh chemicals promoting a healthy organic herd of livestock. Nfg is currently proving this method near Texarkana, TX on 420 acres with three pivots and 850 head of cattle. By mid-summer 2014, Nfg will have a proven formula to duplicate its success on other lands and in other states. For more information please contact: [email protected]
