Yum Yum Yoshi is an alliterative book. This means that a lot of the words in it start
with the same letter. Make a list on the board of all the words starting with the letter
‘Y’ that appear in this book.
A lot of things in the pictures in Yum Yum Yoshi also start with the same letter. Go
through the illustrations of Yum Yum Yoshi and see how many things starting with
the letter ‘Y’ you can spot. List them on the board. How do the illustrations and the
text work together to show as many ‘Y’ words as possible?
Yoshi is a yellow-bellied glider. Do some research into yellow-bellied gliders. Where
do they live? What do they eat?
Write your own alliterative story using the letter ‘Y’. What other animals starting
with ‘Y’ can you think of? What other activities starting with ‘Y’ can you think of?
Yoshi eats lots of yummy foods! What foods do you think are YUM YUM? Have a
yummy food day at school, and bring in your favourite yummy foods to share with
your class.
What is yum cha? What country does it come from? What sorts of things are made
in a yum cha banquet?
Yoga is a form of exercise and meditation that helps you strengthen your body and
your mind. Do a little research into yoga. Where did it come from? Why do people
do it? What different types of yoga are there? As a class, try some basic beginner’s
