Defeat the Beat Competition 2017
Thank you for your interest in the City of Joondalup Defeat the Beat competition 2017.
There are a number of conditions you must meet to enter the competition:
• Artists must be aged 12 to 18 years (inclusive);
• At least one group member resides or attends an educational institution within the
City of Joondalup;
• Individuals may only represent one group or solo act;
• First placed acts from previous year’s competitions may not enter;
• Material submitted must not contain offensive material or coarse language;
You or your group will need to complete this entry form and submit a link to your music
by Friday 24 February 2017; this can be either an original performance or a cover
performance and doesn’t need to be of a professional standard.
From the entries received a number of acts will be selected to perform at the final
competition on Friday 7 April 2017. Artists should be aware that they will need to be
available on this date.

Finalists will be notified by Friday 3 March 2017.

Please write an introduction of up to 100 words about your act. You can mention your genre, style,
influences, any live performances you’ve done or a brief history of your act.
Note: The City of Joondalup may amend text where appropriate.
Consent
Prior to the event, images submitted of the act may be used for publicity and promotional purposes. During
the competition the City of Joondalup’s authorised photographer may be present to record performances.
These images may be used for further publicity and promotion purposes including social media.
To take part in the Defeat the Beat Competition all group members must sign below. Parent/Guardian
signature is required if a group member is under 18 years of age.
You hereby agree to the conditions set out above and grant the City of Joondalup permission to use images
for promotion of the event.

Stage plan
Please clearly indicate on the stage plan below how your group will appear.
Please note that the City will provide a backline drum kit that will remain set up at the back of the stage for the
evening, due to the time it takes to set up.
It is recommended that performers provide their own cymbals, pedal and snare if they have a preference as the
drum kit provided will be standard. Acts will need to provide instruments and any other specialised equipment.
The City will provide other basic backline requirements.
Show clearly where vocal microphones, instruments and amps will be placed/required.
