AQUA CEL – Abraded
®
DESCRIPTION
AQUA CEL® – Abraded is a cellular, rigid expanded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) panel specially engineered
and manufactured as core material for marine industry applications. It has a rough, abraded surface
texture specially developed to modify its surface area for enhanced bonding capabilities. Typical
structural substrate end-use applications include boat floor liners, side panel reinforcements and
backing panels where seats, hatches, throttles and instruments are mounted.
CONSTRUCTION
AQUA CEL – Abraded is a comparatively lightweight core material used to carry shear and
compressive loads in conventional fiberglass sandwich laminates. It is compatible with virtually
all resin systems, bonding well with epoxies, polyesters, vinyl esters, and polyurethanes. It adds
substantial stiffness and flexural strength to fiberglass sandwich laminates with very little weight
gain.
AQUA CEL – Abraded is an ideal core substrate because of its superior screw and staple holding
properties. Independent tests conducted under ASTM D1761 testing procedures show staple
withdrawal numbers that are over 34% better than plywood and screw holding numbers that are
over 40% better than plywood. Field tests show that our AQUA CEL – Abraded has better physical
properties in virtually every category over other PVC panel products.
AQUA CEL – Abraded is made with a revolutionary cellular formulation that assures high-strength
and consistent density. It is a closed cell structure panel with extremely low water absorption values.
Its inherent moisture resistance and low-level specific gravity give it a positive flotation rating. This
means AQUA CEL – Abraded is lighter than water and it floats.
WARRANTY
AQUA CEL – Abraded is a void-free panel fully warranted against deterioration due to water,
against fungal decay, and against attack by insects for the reasonable life of the panel. AQUA CEL
– Abraded is self-extinguishing and will not support combustion without an external fuel source.

INSTALLATION
AQUA CEL – Abraded can be sawn, routed, shaped, drilled, and edge-planned using ordinary
woodworking tools. It is easy to form, glue, screw, nail, and staple. AQUA CEL – Abraded is warp
resistant and is carefully packaged to stay free from moisture and contaminants during storage and
shipping. Store AQUA CEL – Abraded bundles indoors on a flat base, or under cover on flat ground,
for best dimensional stability.
