DEVON TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015 Petanque, more commonly known as the “French games of Boules” oLen seen and played when on holiday in France, conjures up visions of dusty French village squares in baking sunshine with a glass of wine in hand. The Devon Triples Championships took place at Pig on the Hill Petanque Club at Westward Ho! on Sunday 12th July where the players were hoping for weather similar to the above image. However our midsummer weather took a turn for the worse and the players had to deal with drizzle and rain which played havoc with the playing surface soLening the normally hard ground which meant many adjustments to the style of throw used. The local team of John Violet, Chris Jeffrey and Gary Smith from the Pig on the Hill Club adapted beZer than others winning 4 out of 5 games bea\ng the Chudleigh Petanque Club Team of Thierry Hacq, Henry PickeZ and Rob Thomas also on 4 wins but losing out to their individual result and a beZer points difference. Both these teams will go on to represent Devon Pétanque Region in the English Pétanque Associa\on’s Champion of Champions event in October where they will play against the other 15 Regional Champions and Runners Up across England.
