MAY 2017 – HIGHLIGHTED SHOWS May 2017 highlighted shows on SABC1 Mzansi Fo Sho comprise a wide offering meant to accommodate the differing tastes of our youthful audience. Viewers should look forward to exciting brand new shows such as, One Mic S1 (Music Entertainment); Mina Nawe S1 (local drama series) and Six Zeros to my Name (Documentary Series). New Seasons will include the following viewer favourites: Come Again S3 (Reality Series); 1’s and 2’s S4 (Music Reality Show); and the comedy series, Single Guyz S2. SABC 1 – LIFE AND TV ARE ONE! 1. SIX ZEROS TO MY NAME – Local doc - (Tues 02 May, at 22h00) Six Zeros is a documentary series that looks at young people making a mark in their respective industries. These are people that through trials and tribulations, were able to transcend beyond the range of the set limits to a stage not expected or imagined for them, and in the process adding 6 figures to their bank accounts, and still have a little bit of themselves to give to the community while living it up. These are Mzansi’s young millionaires we love to read, watch, and hear about because we are envious of their millions and wish we belonged to the six zero’s club. Finally Mzansi Fo Sho brings you an exclusive ticket to the millionaire’s club through a series that allows viewers to tour and explore lifestyles of South Africa’s youngest and wealthiest individuals. The series will feature the following participants: Rito Hlungwani, May Mahlangu, Bonang Matheba, Max Lichaba and Teboho Mafodi. 2. SINGLE GUYZ S2 - Comedy Series - (Mon 08 May, at 19h30) Khaya, Zanele and Thaps have grown up and moved on. Three young and very different men move into an apartment together. The new trio, MAZI, SIYANDA and SKHINDI are Single Guyz 2. It’s a new year and these guys have to figure out how they are going to survive, make money, and find love and success in Braamfontein, Joburg. Along the way, they form friendships, make mistakes, and learn life-changing lessons. They feel fear, love, joy, disappointment and excitement, all on their journey towards becoming independent men. Lead cast: Rea Rangaka as Mazi; Vincent Mahlangu as Siyanda and Tumelo ‘Tumi’ Matila plays Skhindi. 3. COME AGAIN S3 - Doc Series - (Wed 10 May, at 18h00) Come Again is a travel documentary series that visits places in South Africa with unusual names. The presenter, Ntombi MaNgcobo ka Mzolo, goes there to find out the origins and the meaning of the name. These are names that make people say “Come Again?”, when they hear them and start imagining what that place must be like based on the name. The series goes deep into the name and the place and see if the name is indeed a reflection of what the place is like and how life is there. It is a celebration of creativity where we take a deeper look into the name; uncover any stereotypes and misconceptions about the place and really show what lies beyond the name. 4. ONE MIC S1 – Music Entertainment - (Thurs 11 May, at 18h00) One Mic aims to be a young and vibrant approach to local music entertainment delving into the dynamic lyrical ochestras of rap, hip hip, spoken word, free style and cypha genres. With various competitive elements, the show aims to dish it fresh every week for the with explosive chemistry and a kaleidoscope of colours that reflects back to the core market this critical elements of their music of choice Presenter: DJ Doo Wap Judges: Pro, Big Zulu and Aewon Wolf 5. MINA NAWE S1 – Local Drama Series - (Sun 14 May, 19h30) Funeka is a 29 year old single woman whose sole mission is to marry the man of her dreams. Funeka and Sakhile used to be high school sweethearts and separated to pursue their career and dreams. Eight years later they meet again and old flames are re-kindled and they start having an affair. Sakhile is now married to Dineo and they have two children together. Like all flings, Funeka and Sakhile affair starts off as a fun secret between old flames. The things Funeka does are silly and funny as the comedy of errors begin to unfold. Cast list includes: Solomon Sebothoma (Sakhile); Sibusisiwe Jili (Dineo); Tango Ncetezo (Funeka); Yonda Thomas (Pule); Angela Sithole (Kedibone); Kayise Ngqula (Portia); Monica Zulu (Aus Lizzy) and Nolwazi Shange (Sheila). 6. SHUGA S5 – Drama Series – (Sun 14 May, at 20h00) Set in the cool clubs, hangouts and schools of Johannesburg’s Braamfontein, and the township of “Zenzele”, a fictional version of Soweto, Season S5 of MTV Shuga, is currently airing on SABC1 Mzansi Fo Sho on Fridays at 22h00 and the repeats episodes will start on Sunday 14 May 2017, at 20h00. MTV Shuga is a long-running drama series and multimedia campaign that follows the sexual lives of young people on the African continent. Over four series, the drama has crossed the continent from Kenya to Nigeria and touched on numerous plotlines relating to HIV and safe sex including HIV testing, stigma, living with HIV, mother-to-child transmission, transactional sex, genderbased violence, teen pregnancy and condom use. The new cast for season 5 of the gripping pro-social drama, shot on location is South Africa, includes a host of well-known South African TV and movie regulars such as: Hip hop star Kwesta, and Afro-pop diva Seyi Shay, Given Stuurman, Ayanda Makayi, Stephanie Sandows, Winnie Ntshaba, Phila Mazibuko, Lerato Walaza and Samkelisiwe Makhoba. The new cast will join the previously announced cast members in season 5 as follows: Vannessa Mdee (Storm), Clint Brink (Rakeem), Thuso Mbedu (Ipeleng), Mohau Mokoatle Cele (Bongi), Jezriel Skei (Quinton), Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ikubese (Femi), Nick Matuma (Leo), and Adesua Etomi (Sheila). 7. 1’S AND 2’S S4 – Reality Show - (Tues 16 May, at 21h00) Season 4 of 1’s and 2’s, the world’s first Televised reality DJ talent search, starts airing on SABC 1 in May. The show that brought you DJ Mshega, Prince KB and Ebhayi’s own DJ SK is here for another season to find South Africa’s best unsigned music producer! The deejay hopefuls are all playing for the title of 2017 Master of spin. More than just a title, the winners also walk away with production and deejaying equipment and software to the value of R100 000.00 and all they need to kick start their career. Presided over by our resident judges DJ Naves (Lebogang Naves) and Sphectacula (Sphe Ngwenya) from Metro FM’s “The Pre Party” the show is hosted by Thando Thabethe.
