September 16, 2015 Dear St. Michael Families, September 16, 2015

September 16, 2015
Dear St. Michael Families,
September 16, 2015
This Friday is our annual Walk-A-Thon at Sharon Woods. It looks like we are going to have beautiful weather
again this year! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, especially since the classes will be competing for the coveted “Golden Sneaker” Award. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to join us for all or part of our day. We
will begin with an all-school mass at 8:15 and then will walk over to Sharon Woods. Friday is an out of uniform
day and Walk-A-Thon t-shirts were delivered to the classrooms today.
Next Wednesday, September 23rd is picture day! Envelopes are coming home today or parents can place orders
online. Picture Day is also an out of uniform day.
Finally, if you have not had an opportunity to complete our parent survey for OCSAA accreditation, please do so
as soon as possible. Students in grades 4-8 completed a student survey this week in their technology class. The
parent survey will be closing at midnight on Thursday. Here is the link for that survey:

Have a great week,

PTO News
Walk-A-Thon !!!
We are so excited that Walk-A-Thon is just two days away!!! Thank you, in advance, to our WAT committee, all the volunteers and all those who have pledged money to benefit St. Michael School!! It's going to be a beautiful day full of St. Michael
School Spirit!! Homeroom Coordinators should be (or already have been in) in touch with their classrooms to keep you up to
speed on the day's activities. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact PTO!

We are still missing 68 Pledge Forms. Please note that the pledge form acts as a permission slip, so be sure to turn it in
by FRIDAY! Money is not due at this time. A copy of the pledge form can be found on the St. Michael School website.

Children with Food Allergies!!! There will be two snacks at WAT - pretzels and popcorn. The pretzels are Snyders of
Hanover, and are made in a facility that handles peanut butter. Wendy Sauer has kindly purchased Kroger brand pretzels, which are safe for kids with peanut allergies. If your child has a peanut allergy, he or she should ask for the Kroger
brand pretzels. The second snack is popcorn, which will be made at the house of a committee member, and the house is
not peanut free. Please be aware of this, and if you do not want your child to eat the popcorn, please tell him or her.

If you have any donations for prizes, please send them into school to Heather Willis, c/o Grace or Sam.
VIRTUS
VIRTUS training will be held at St. Michael on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please pre-register at

Art Corner Update
Thanks for those of you who have brought in some of your "trash" from home
and donated it to the art room. I truly appreciate it and so does the environment! For the past few weeks as an introduction to art class our students
have recreated a garden in our hallway that leads to the art room.
It has been a lot of fun watching it grow and to see the students so excited
about it. Hope you enjoy seeing it as much as they have!

“Life’s Greatest Lesson”
If you have an extra copy of the book entitled, “Life’s Greatest Lesson” by Allen R. Hunt that was given to parishioners after
Masses this past Christmas, we would happily accept it! Our 5th grade is planning to use it as part of their Religion curriculum
and we could still use about 20 more books. Copies can be sent to school to Mrs. Schworer. Thanks in advance!
The Weekly Kate Update
by Morgan Snyder and John Callahan
Well, school is off to a good start for Kate and she is excited to be back. We hope all of you feel the same way!
Over this weekend, Kate and her family enjoyed a fun day at Findlay Market and welcomed her uncle Danny to Ohio. Also,
Kate’s chemotherapy has been changed to Tuesday afternoons instead of Tuesday mornings.
That’s all for this week! Hope you read again next time! 

Mustangs Serve News
Mustangs Serve
Mustangs Serve, a service group at St. Michael Parish School, provides family friendly volunteering opportunities. As a group,
we get out in our community and partner with various local organizations to serve others. It is a lot of fun, a perfect way to
get to know other families, and these opportunities are great for any age.

September Volunteering: Blessing Bags for the Homeless
Why: If you are like me, when I am at a stoplight and I look out the window of my car and see a homeless person standing
next to me holding a sign pleading for help, I look the other way. I am quick to make a snap judgment about whether or not
I think this person really needs help. Who am I to judge? Shouldn’t I just help? What type of message am I sending to my
kids when I just pretend like this person is invisible? Yikes. When I wrestle with issues like this, I find it beneficial to turn to
scripture:
“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?”
1 John 3:17
“Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it.”
Hebrews 13:2
Volunteer Opportunity: We will be assembling “Blessing Bags”, which are quart sized Ziploc bag filled with essential items
like a toothbrush/toothpaste, tissues, anti-bacterial wipes, band aids, razor, juice box, small snacks, a pair of socks, etc. We
will also have the kids write a note of encouragement to put in the bag and decorate the bags using Sharpie markers. You
will then keep these “Blessing Bags” in your car for passing along to someone in need. I love the idea of being proactive, so
you are ready when you face a need! This is also a great opportunity to pray together as a family for the person you blessed.
Cost: The cost is $3 per bag. I will purchase the bags and all of the contents ahead of time. You can put together as many
bags as you like!
When: Wednesday, September 23rd. Come anytime between 6p-8p to assemble, decorate, and write a note to go inside
the bag. You will take your bags home with you.
Where: St. Michael Cafeteria
Please RSVP: Please let me know how many bags you would like to assemble by Monday, September 21st at the latest
(earlier is preferred because I have had such an overwhelming response so far – we are up to 225 bags so I am buying in
bulk!) Since I have to purchase everything ahead of time, it is essential that you RSVP! Payment can be sent through school
mail (Riley Sauer, 4B) or you can bring the money with you the night that we assemble the bags. RSVP to Wendy Sauer,
call/text: 702-4844 or email: [email protected]
Can’t attend?: I can assemble the bags for you and send them through school mail or you can pick them up at my house in
Sharonville. Please use the RSVP guidelines above.
RECAP: 3rd Annual Backpack Attack: Benefitting The Healing Center
Thank you to the St. Michael School families who supplied backpacks and/or attended the Mustangs Serve serving event in
early August. Our group provided 34 brand new backpacks filled with new school supplies, which was handed out to kids in
need at The Healing Center. Our school also blessed The Healing Center with donations from our used uniform sale in early
August. The families that The Healing Center serves was doubly blessed this back-to-school season! Special thanks to the
generosity of the used uniform sale leaders (Julie Aluotto, Stephanie Sage, and Amy Sharpshair) and our Mustangs Serve
group!
