City Baseball Roundup
Aztecas Shock Petroff Realty, 7-1
Without swinging a bat .or
throwing a ball, VanDervoort's has moved into sole
possession of first place in the
wild City League baseball
race.
Three teams were tied with
11-2-1 records
entering
Wednesday's play at Municipal Park, but a big upset and
a thrilling finish saw two of
the pacesetters fall into second.
AZTECAS PULLED the surprise, handing powerful Petroff Realty a 7-1 dunking
while McNamara crept toward
the leaders with a come-frombehind 8-6 triumph of Rocky's
Teakwood Lounge.
A big start and the superb
pitching of Dean Eisler were
the keys in Aztecas victory.
Four hits accounted for
three runs in the initial inning
for the winners, as Eisler
tamed the usually potent petroff bats with just four h i t s two each by Rick Carrow and
Bill Turngren.
The former St. Johns basketball standout struck out
five batters and walked three
in picking up his third victory
againse one loss.
Mike Green's -double in the
fifth highlighted a three-run
uprising for the Aztecas.
Trailing by a 5-1 margin entering the bottom of the fifth,
McNamara erupted for three
runs in the fifth and four more
in the sixth to claim its exciting triumph.
DAN BROWN opened the
fifth with a single and Dick
McKeon followed with a home
run, whittling the Rocky lead
to 5-3. With one out, Jerry Sut-
ton singled, took second on an
infield out and came home on
a double by Tom Tuscott.
Brown's third straight hit
drove home Bruce Miller in
the sixth with the tying run.
Miller was a pinch-runner for
Steve Simon, who had tripled,
Two walks then loaded the
bases, and the left-handed
swinging Sutton cleared them
with a triple.
RELIEVER DAN Leonard
got credit for the victory,
while Rocky relief pitcher Jim
Kniivila took the loss.
