“Everything you always wanted to know about the Meniscus but were afraid to ask” Final Programme 21th annual meeting of the NVA Friday - April 1 - 2011 De Heerlickheijd - Ermelo www.scopie.org Meniscal Cinch ™ Make All-Inside Meniscal Repair a Cinch ® The unique design of the Meniscal Cinch . . . • Minimizes damage to tissue during insertion: - Low profile implant-over-needle design reduces perforation through tissue - New knotless implant construct reduces insertion force through meniscus • Facilitates reproducible tensioning and secure FiberWire® fixation: - Optimized FiberWire construct slides easily - Pretied sliding knot advances away from the articular surface Welcome Dear Collegues, On behalf of the board of the Dutch Arthroscopy Society I want to invite you to our annual meeting, which will be held in the conference centre ‘De Heerlickheijd’ in Ermelo on Friday April 1, 2011. The topic of this meeting is the meniscus. This wonderful structure protects the knee from arthritic changes. Unfortunately it can tear which can lead to dramatic symptoms. We should realize that pathology of the meniscus was the start of the popularity of arthroscopy! This tiny structure in the knee initially seemed unimportant. For years it was common sense to totally remove a ruptured meniscus! We learned how to respect the meniscus the hard way. More and more we focus on preservation, repair and regeneration of the meniscus, instead of resection. You are kindly invited to participate in the annual meeting. The scientific committee has arranged a high quality program: don’t miss this opportunity! The goals of this meeting are to improve your knowledge and skills and to have fun. This meeting should be part of your life-long learning process in arthroscopy. Please mark Friday, April 1, 2011 and hope to see you in Ermelo. The Sequent™ All-Inside, Stay-Inside meniscus repair device affords simplicity (completely all-inside knotless repair), versatility (multiple continuous stitches) and predictability (individually fixed and tensioned stitches) in a cost effective, time efficient manner. David Caborn, MD Department of Orthopaedic Surgery University of Louisville Dear NVA member , The Sequent: The ONLY All-Inside, Stay-Inside Meniscal Repair System The Sequent™ All-Inside, Stay-Inside Meniscal Repair Device allows for versatility in approaching meniscus tears. The flexibility of multiple stitches that can be placed in almost an infinite number of configurations allows the arthroscopist to confidently address almost any type of meniscus tear, providing a strong and stable repair that allows the patient to rehabilitate aggressively. Akbar Nawab, MD Ellis and Badenhausen Orthopaedics Lousville, KY ConMed Linvatec is pleased to announce the release of the the new Sequent™ Meniscal Repair Device. The Sequent™ is an All-Inside, Stay-Inside continuous stitching system that allows surgeons to complete the repair of virtually any meniscal tear using only one device without having to leave the joint. The Sequent™ device is loaded with multiple implants, each with suture locking technology, allowing for individually tensioned and fixed stitches creating a knotless repair in any configuration. This technology provides surgeons with an opportunity for reduced risk of failures, reduced risk of meniscal trauma and reduced risk of chondral damage while using a simple meniscal repair technique. Key Benefits: 1. Continuous stitching capability a. One device for entire repair: Ease of use; Faster Technique & Lower Cost. b. Repair is a continuous construct: Less meniscal trauma & More uniform repair 2. All-inside, Stay-inside capability - No in and out of the joint Ease-of-use, faster technique; Reduced risk of catching soft tissue; Reduced chance of chondral scuffing & Reduced chance of infection 3. Knotless technique: a. No knot on meniscal surface - Reduced chance of chondral grooving b. No knot tying c. No knot pushing www.scopie.org Workshop/presentation by DePuy Mitek Since the preservation of the meniscus became a well-established hallmark of knee surgery, all-inside meniscal repair has undergone an important evolution as arthroscopic techniques have improved. All of these innovations must stand up against the gold standard that remains inside-out repair. This workshop/ presentation gives an overview of the four generations of all-inside meniscus repair devices that have evolved, from cumbersome suture hooks and arthroscopic knot tying techniques to sleek combinations of suture, slip knot, and peripheral anchors, all in one device. These new, all inside, meniscal repair techniques and implants do offer distinct advantages over older all-inside methods. However, incorrect insertion, even in experienced hands, can result in chondral abrasions and penetration of neurovascular structures and even the skin. Good comparative and prospective studies are needed in this rapidly growing field of Orthopaedics. DePuy Mitek gives you a warm welcome during this workshop/presentation and will like to share with you, the best practices of the meniscus repair experiences of Dr Peter Reynaert, orthopaedic surgeon from Leuven. I want to invite you for a hands-on session with the new all – inside meniscal repair device of Depuy Mitek called Omnispan®. I appreciate to meet you at the Depuy Mitek workshop during the NVA congress from 12.00 u to 13.15 u in the Depuy Mitek room.
