Week of Sep. 22
What’s Happening?
Unit 1 Math Assessment: This is in folders
this week. Please let me know if you have any
questions. We did great!
Homework: We will begin our Math homework
routine this week. Your child will bring home
a Home Links packet each week. These
activities relate to what we have done in
class. They should be review, but may need
some assistance from you. Please complete
the packet at a pace that is appropriate for
your child. Packets are due in one week (even
though it says return tomorrow on the top of
each page). Please let me know if your child is
every struggling with any homework.
Unit 2 Family Letter: Please see this packet
in folders today. These letters will be sent
at the start of each unit. They explain what
we will be working on and various vocabulary
we will learn. Also, the answer key to all
homework pages is provided. Please note that
I will not send every homework page home.
Math
STAR Assessment: This is a computerized
district-wide assessment we did this week.
Results will be shared soon.
Number Grid: We practiced counting up and
back using a number grid. This is a great
strategy to use to add and subtract.
Work on at Home:
 Counting forward and back by 1’s to
100
 Number writing and recognition to 100
 Coin recognition (penny, nickel, dime)
Reading
Book of the week: Where do I live?
Comprehension: Text-to-self connections
Vocabulary: private, public, neighborhood,
cooperate
Ask: Where are places people live? What do each
of the vocab words mean?
Phonics


We worked with short a word families
(at, ap, an, ad, etc.)
We are realizing if we can read and
write hat, then we can read and write
bat, sat, mat, etc.
Literacy at Home
*Read each night if you can.
* Work on high-frequency words.
*Practice writing words or sentences using your
best sounds.
Writing
We continued working in our September Journals
and writing about plants. We are working on
building complete sentences using various words we
use each day (names, September vocab, Book of
the Week vocab).
Unit
Plants:
 We did a word web to discuss what we
already know about plants.
 We discussed plant parts, focusing on seeds
and leaves (Friday).
 We began making a flip book about the jobs
of plant parts.
