Colossians Study #1 - Oakes United Methodist Church

The Lego Christian
A Study In Colossians
Most people are familiar with the little colored bricks that snap together. Kids have hours of fun building
houses and countless other objects. When you buy a Lego set there is a picture on the front of the box. The
promise is that if you put all the bricks together in a certain order you will have created the structure that is
pictured on the box. If you leave several pieces out then what you are building may not be able to be
completed or will look different from what is pictured on the box.
You and I are a work in progress like those Lego sets. We are trying to build our lives to be Christ like.
Colossians gives us several clues to what essential spiritual building bricks we need to use in the construction
of our daily walk with God.
I…The Brick Of Faithfulness
Read Colossians 1:1-2
Paul calls the Christians in Colossae “Faithful in Christ”
In your own words how would you define what the word faithful means?
To help in that definition I have included a list of words that are synonym for Faithful.
Adherence…Attachment…Constancy...Dependability…Fidelity…Loyalty

After reading the verses above ask yourself these four questions
1…What areas of my walk with God am I faithful in right now?
2…What areas have I neglected in my daily walk with God?
3…What steps do I need to take to become more faithful in the neglected areas?
4…Would the Apostle Paul use the same words to describe me as “Faithful in Christ”?
The word Example is defined as…one that serves as a pattern to be imitated or not to be imitated.
The passages listed below are examples of people who were faithful. List the ways in which these people
were faithful.

Questions for thought:
1…Is our faithfulness to God dependent on what others are doing or thinking?
2…Am I faithful no matter what circumstances I face?
3…Do I realize that my faithfulness or lack of faithfulness becomes an example to others?
After reading the selected scriptures in this study how would you now define “Faithful In Christ”?
Why is faithfulness so important? Read II Chronicles 26:16-18 to answer the question!
