To survive in the "Seam" in District 12, you
must be either incredibly strong and/or
incredibly skilled.

When Katniss' father dies, Katniss does not
give up. She "picks up her feet" and hunts
for her family. In other words she takes
charge of her family. In return, they are fed
and able to survive.

''You try to break me, but what doesn't kill
you makes you stronger"
Katniss did not "break" and release her
emotions by crying when she volunteered for
the Hunger Games. She knew that by crying,
she would be known as a weakling instead of
being known as a strong person she is.

''You think you got the best of me, think you
had the last laugh"
Katniss was the last to be judged by the gamemakers. It
made it especially hard to make a good impression on
them. When she was being ignored, she did not let the
gamemakers "have the last laugh" and give her a low
score. She did something outrageous, and shot an arrow
at them so that she would be noticed.

I think our song "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson relates to
the theme of strength and skill of Katniss very well.
Katniss is very skilled and is also strong, but not in the
way that you think. Katniss is very strong in heart, and
that combined with her skill with a bow is the reason
why her family survived the aftermath of the death of
her father.
