RESULT: 1 P Bagshaw, Ultimate Barnsley Blacks, 74-12-0; 2 T Sears, Daiwa Hallcroft, 64-12-0; D Speight, Hallcroft, 60-0-0; 4 C Perry, Sensas, 54-12-0. Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery (Fri pm) Moat Pool (55 Pegs) The top four finishers all broke the ton barrier, with Dave Dare first past the post with 147-12-0, made up of 20 carp to 8lb on polefished worm, maggot and pellet fished in the margins of peg 10 on the Outer. Second was Andy Oldham, who also fished the margins but with meat, pellet and corn over groundbait for carp to double figures in a 129-4-0 bag from peg 101 also on the Outer. RESULT: 1 D Dare, Nottingham, 147-12-0; 2 A Oldham, Maver/Ultimate Barnsley Blacks, 129-4-0; 3 S Pimperton, Shawstead, 120-12-0; 4 S Barraclough, Frenzee, 103-4-0; 5 G Gibson, Sutton-cumLound, 97-12-0; 6 B Holmes, Fox Match Trentmen, 96-4-0. Dragon Watermeadows 5K Qualifier Ingoldmells (33 pegs) Pegs in the 40s have been prolific at this Lincolnshire complex and Jamie Bonsall took 116-7-0, which included carp to 8lb, to top this latest qualifier. Presenting meat shallow right across at peg 46 and feeding next-to-nothing throughout the match Jamie kept the interest up by beating his dad Chris, who took another all-carp 90-13-0 to finish second! RESULT: 1 J Bonsall, Avanti, 116-7-0; 2 C Bonsall, Avanti, 90-13-0; 3 D Pimperton, Avanti, 66-10-0; 4 G Wright, Avanti, 58-5-0; 5 P Underwood, Spilsby AC, 55-10-0; 6 K Haywood, Avanti, 49-4-0. Fish O’Mania Qualifier (Weds) Dynamite Baits Makin’s Fishery (130 pegs) Tony Curd made it two Fish O’ final appearances in three years after winning this second qualifier of the 2011 event at Makin’s with a 153-11-0 haul. It was a day when the top five all recorded three-figure weights spread across different waters when many had thought Lake 2 would completely dominate. The winner did come off that water though, Guru/Bait-Techbacked Tony drawing peg A9 on Lake 2 and taking around 20 carp to 9lb on a combination of Method feeder and pellet waggler tactics to finish one good fish in front of runner-up Tim Dabrowa’s 145-6-0, the win coming just two years after the London-based youngster qualified at Lakeview Fishery. Faced with an island at 30m, Tony kicked off with a pellet Method feeder and 8mm banded pellet on the hook and with plenty of carp cruising around on the surface, he switched to the pellet waggler and 8mm pellet a little further away from the island for a few casts when the feeder line went quiet – a change that nicked a few fish to keep his nose in front. RESULT: 1 T Curd, Guru/Bait-Tech, 153-11-0; 2 T Dabrowa, Fox Match Stanjay, 145-6-0; 3 J Smith, Marukyu Baits, 132-3-0; 4 D Reeve, Daiwa Angling Direct, 129-2-0; 5 L Farmer, Browning Central, 110-12-0. Packington Somers Molands Mere Pool (36 pegs) Leicestershire raider Max Higgott, MAMMOTH HAUL FOR MARTIN... Warren hits Barford Lakes with 216-10-0 BY TONY GRIGORJEVS [email protected] Warren Martin once again proved why he is the most feared angler at Norfolk’s Barford Lakes when he hauled out a mammoth 216-10-0 to take victory during the latest Maver Match This qualifier. The Sensas and Lewis’ Angler’s Gone Fishing Hinckley, used a Method feeder to reach the end of the island from his peg 44 draw on the end of the point – his meat baits gaining a response from carp into double figures and a trio of tench that together made up his winning weight of 81-13-0. Runner-up Tony Shepherd, of the Banbury Gunsmiths squad, looked to be finishing nowhere as he struggled at peg 33 with pole and pellet to catch a few tench and crucians, but a switch in the final hour to Method feeder and meat saved the day as five carp to 8lb boosted his catch to 76-13-0. RESULT: 1 M Higgott, Gone Fishing Hinckley, 81-13-0; 2 T Shepherd, Banbury Gunsmiths, 76-13-0; 3 M Wiliams, Chiltern Baits, 68-13-0; 4 S Smith, Kobra Feeders, 68-8-0; 5 S Wilsmore, Milo/D&A Tackle, 66-15-0; 6 C O’Brian, Fast Feeders, 66-1-0; 7 D Duggan, Dams & Lock, 57-11-0; 8 R Harris, Chiltern Baits, 53-11-0. Rycroft Fishery Moat & Clover Pools (32 pegs) Match-winner Sam Randall drew Clover Pool peg 22 and was kept busy catching carp to 5lb up in the water. Feeding 4mm pellet and fishing a small pellet on the hook the Derby rod recorded 83-14-0. RESULT: 1 S Randall, Fox Match Trentmen, 83-14-0; 2 C Allan, Marukyu Baits, 82-11-0; 3 D Bamford, Lakeview Select, 73-12-0; 4 P Swinston, Clay Cross, 71-8-0; World backed ace took advantage of a good draw on the Match Lake and used a combination of the pole and waggler from peg 6 to take plenty of carp to 9lb. With very little ripple on the water when the event began and lots of fishing cruising in the upper layers, Warren decided to use a shallow rig with a long length of line between pole tip and float and swung the bait directly in front of any fish that passed through his swim. Almost every time his banded pellet hit the surface, it was taken by a lump. At times, the fish backed off and casting to clearly visible with the waggler brought about the same result. After three hours the wind picked up and his winning approach had to be abandoned as he was unable to see under the 5 R Downing, Mill Tackle, 68-1-0; 6 D Ringham, Rycroft, 62-1-0. 3 D Smith, Dudley, 53-0-0.
