Volunteers Transform FB for 2013 Conferences
Every summer Ferry Beach kicks off its season
with the Work and Play
conference where volunteers
gather for a week to feel the
deep sense of satisfaction that
comes from hard work and
good times.
This year we have nearly
Last year’s Work & Play week
100 adults and youths
ready to tackle about 50 improvement projects
throughout the campus. Among the most
challenging are replacing the dilapidated Rowland
side porch with a deck
and constructing a
fence in the Grove to
shield trailer row.

New this year will be an effort to start a dune
nursery to help address dune erosion. Other
projects include a variety of chores under the
categories of painting, pressure washing, sewing,
gardening, grounds crew, carpentry and cleaning.
“It has been a tradition at Ferry Beach to open
each summer with this conference,” Operations
Director David Ruitenburg said. “The volunteers
get the campus ready for the hundreds that enjoy
all that Ferry Beach
has to offer. We are
fortunate to have so
many who really care
about the beach.”
