Mary Ann Brussat Rolling up the Sleeves Volunteers Transform FB for 2013 Conferences Every summer Ferry Beach kicks off its season with the Work and Play conference where volunteers gather for a week to feel the deep sense of satisfaction that comes from hard work and good times. This year we have nearly Last year’s Work & Play week 100 adults and youths ready to tackle about 50 improvement projects throughout the campus. Among the most challenging are replacing the dilapidated Rowland side porch with a deck and constructing a fence in the Grove to shield trailer row. Other projects include a variety of chores under the categories of painting, pressure washing, sewing, gardening, grounds crew, carpentry and cleaning. “It has been a tradition at Ferry Beach to open each summer with this conference,” Operations Director David Ruitenburg said. “The volunteers get the campus ready for the hundreds that enjoy all that Ferry Beach has to offer.
