An act to allow Kentucky governors to run two non-consecutive terms in the Commonwealth of
Kentucky.
Be it enacted by the Youth Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
Section 1: Kentucky Constitution Section Seventy-One (71) states the Governor shall be ineligible for
the succeeding four (4) years after the expiration of any second consecutive term for which he shall be
elected. This is needed in Kentucky because whether or not your terms are consecutive is irrelevant to
the service of our commonwealth. This will help Kentucky because it will allow Kentucky leadership that
is more experienced in office.
Section 2: This law will apply to the previous and current governor(s) of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky.
Section 3: Future governors would be able to serve two nonconsecutive terms of four (4) years. This bill
is not changing the total of two four-year terms which is eight (8) years total.
Section 4: Consecutive means to follow continuously. Current governors are allowed to serve two
consecutive four-year terms.
Section 6: This bill will have no cost.
Section 7: This law will be enforced by the Kentucky Board of Elections.
Section 8: This bill will go into effect the next election year after passage.
