BPA By: Jesse Dannels and Allie Skoyen Some kids go home after school, and some go to practice. Then, there are the dedicated kids who go above and beyond attending BPA meetings after their long days at school. These students go the extra mile, whether it is going to the late night meetings, lunchtime parlipro meetings, or community service on Sundays. During the Christmas season, the local BPA Chapter teamed up with NHS to give back to the unfortunate and wrap Christmas presents for kids who don’t always have presents to rip open on Christmas morning. “It’s nice knowing that taking one hour out of your day can help make a memory for a kid that will last a lifetime,” stated senior Kailey Kleinjan. The local chapter looks to end their holiday season by taking their regional tests over Christmas break. Soon after, they travel to Sidney on January 20th for their Regional meet where everyone will look to advance to the state meet which will be held in Billings, March 13-15. FFA By: Kailey Klienjan By: Lecia Pronto and Brad Pelesky FCCLA (Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America) is the newest addition to the clubs of CHS. It includes Junior High and High School students. On December 10, 2015, the “Buzz” staff attended an FCCLA meeting in Ms. Hamilton’s room to see what all the excitement was about. This new club is similar to others such as FFA and BPA. They travel to competitions and compete in The Chinook FFA chapter recently returned from the Winter Districts contest in Big Sandy. Movie Day By: Allie Skoyen and Jesse Dannels Nothing is better than curling up next to the fireplace and turning on a movie. That is until you have the opportunity to go to the movies with the majority of the Chinook High School. The students were treated extra special with one of the first viewings of the new “Star Wars” movie. When Kelsey M. and Taylor M. share a selfie asked how during movie day showing of their it felt to be sweaters. among some of the first viewers of Star Wars, Tamer Jameison Page 3 Second Quarter stated “I felt pretty special because I was one of the first few to see it. I know some people were mad because some teenage kids got to see it before them.” In addition, a vast amount of kids went to the new Hunger Games movie. Many students felt that there was no better way to begin your Christmas break than watching a great movie with some of your best friends. Something unique about movie day is that the students are cut a sweet deal of only a $6 fee, a one dollar bump up from last year. Another special part about this day is that it is ugly sweater day. So, many students wore their ugliest sweater to participate in the festivities. A mix of ugly sweaters, movies, and friends is the best thing about Christmas break. The NHS is a school group that recruits its member from the students who have a GPA above 3.5, and requires those students to maintain high standards in citizenship, scholarship, and community service. When asked if the park decorations seemed like a great addition to the spirit of the holidays in the town, the president of NHS, Elizabeth Hodgson, stated, “Absolutely, when we participate in something larger than ourselves it just enhances the sense of togetherness, which is what the holidays are all about.” In addition to decorating, on January 5th the NHS combined with BPA and Student council, for the first blood drive of the New Year, providing refreshments and 2015 NHS decorations at the Centennial Park. community spirit to blood donors.
