Some kids go home after school, and
some go to practice. Then, there are the
dedicated kids who go above and beyond
attending BPA meetings after their long
days at school. These students go the
extra mile, whether it is going to the
late night meetings, lunchtime parlipro
meetings, or community service on
Sundays. During the Christmas season,
the local BPA Chapter teamed up with
NHS to give back to the unfortunate
and wrap Christmas presents for kids
who don’t always have presents to rip
open on Christmas morning. “It’s nice
knowing that taking one hour out of
your day can help make a memory for
a kid that will last a lifetime,” stated
senior Kailey Kleinjan. The local chapter
looks to end their holiday season by
taking their regional tests over Christmas
break. Soon after, they travel to Sidney
on January 20th for their Regional meet
where everyone will look to advance
to the state meet which will be held in
Billings, March 13-15.

Snoball
By: Allie Skoyen and Jesse Dannels
When a night that should not be forgotten
comes to mind, one should be thinking about
Snoball 2015, Moonlight Serenade. From the
bumpin’ tunes by former superintendent Mr. Jay
Eslick, to the delicious desserts, and the energetic
dance moves, the students of CHS made the most
of the night. Starting off
with the sixteen prince
and princess candidates,
Anne Reed, and Rylan

who came out on top.

the boys, Colten Liddle, Brandon Morneau, Easton
Henderson, Garrett Lowham, JJ Colby, and Steven
Mulonet. After the coronation the prince and
princess were given the first dance. Surprisingly,
out of all of the classes to attend, the senior class
had low numbers. However, despite low numbers
from the Senior class, everyone had their fair share
of delightful treats, and danced the night away.

FCCLA (Family, Career, Community, Leaders of
America) is the newest addition to the clubs of
CHS. It includes Junior High and High School
students. On December 10, 2015, the “Buzz” staff
attended an FCCLA meeting in Ms. Hamilton’s
room to see what all the excitement was about.

The Chinook FFA chapter recently returned from
the Winter Districts contest in Big Sandy. The
newly established parliamentary procedure team
didn’t quite hit their goal, but they came home
with their heads held high in optimism to do better
next time. Michael Warburton said “We were a
very inexperienced parli pro team, but it was a
good learning experience.” In FFA competition,

Movie Day
By: Allie Skoyen and Jesse Dannels
Nothing is better than curling up next to the
fireplace and turning on a movie. That is until you
have the opportunity to go to the movies with the
majority of the Chinook High School. The students
were treated

stated “I felt pretty special because I was one of
the first few to see it. I know some people were
mad because some teenage kids got to see it before
them.” In addition, a vast amount of kids went
to the new Hunger Games movie. Many students
felt that there was no better way to begin your
Christmas break than watching a great movie with
some of your best friends. Something unique about
movie day is that the students are cut a sweet deal
of only a $6 fee, a one dollar bump up from last
year. Another special part about this day is that it
is ugly sweater day. So, many students wore their
ugliest sweater to participate in the festivities. A
mix of ugly sweaters, movies, and friends is the
best thing about Christmas break.

But that didn’t stop the girls from making this
trip an unforgettable one. It wasn’t all volleyball
once they were there. On the third day of being in
Bozeman, the team played laser tag in Belgrade,

The day before the big game, the whole school

to come. When game time arrived, over 900 fans
gathered around

Winter Sports
By: Lecia Pronto and Brad Pelesky
The winter sports season kicked off
November 19th featuring girls & boys basketball,
swimming, wrestling, and cheerleading. Abby
Ellison was asked about changes she would like
to see for this basketball season, she replied, “This
year, I think our team will play more “together” in
our games and practices. I also hope that we can
always keep a positive mind-set throughout our
season.” So far, both the girls’ and boys’ teams are
doing well, winning all but three games this season
so far. They have a full season, hopefully full of
wins, to look forward to with the cheerleaders
cheering them on from
the courtside.
So far, there have
been 50 major

Many of the Chinook’s musical arts
students were selected for Montana’s Honor
Band/Choir. For this event, the selected students
practiced for two days straight, learning to sing or
play under a new conductor, and working together
with people they haven’t performed with before
in an effort to make the selection of music sound
amazing. The guest conductor, Dusty Molyneaux,

This took

Choteau, MT on November 30th and December

asked about the CHS qualifiers and how they
performed. Senior, Blake Downs, a tuba player
for honor band, commented, “I believe that
both groups performed extraordinarily well,
properly showcasing the combined talent of the
selected individuals.” Choir Participant, Kassidy
Popchoke, also added, “I think that as a group
entirely, we worked very well, and the concert and
rehearsals were very well accomplished.”

In late November, the National Honor
Society gathered together and livened up the
Chinook Centennial Park with holiday decorations.
As a group, the work was done quite quickly,
leaving the park looking lively and spirited
for the holiday season. The NHS is a school
group that recruits its member from the students
who have a GPA above 3.5, and requires those
students to maintain high standards in citizenship,
scholarship, and community service. When
asked if the park decorations seemed like a great
addition to the spirit of the holidays in the town,
the president of NHS, Elizabeth Hodgson, stated,
“Absolutely, when we participate in something
larger than ourselves it just enhances the sense of
togetherness, which is what the holidays are all
about.”
In addition to decorating,

Just a bunch of Drama
By: Courtney Gunderson
Speech and Drama was sizzling as they
took the stage at their fourth meet of the 20152016 season in Chester on December 5th. Of the
five performers who participated in the meet, three
earned placings of high regard.
Chase Lenz, who strives
in the Humorous Solo
event, scored a 4th place
award and Elizabeth
(Lizzie) Hodgson and
Cortney Gunderson

the energetic six have attended seven meets this
season. Their hometown was held on January 16th.
The Senior Showcase is scheduled for January 26,

Van vs. Deer Continued. . .
By: Chase Lenz and Shiloh Brewer
The battle between the school van and the
beasts of the road continues. The newest school
van was again taken down by a deer, during the
return trip from the Conrad Speech and Drama
meet on November 14. It happened approximately
2 miles from Chinook, when suddenly a deer
jumped across the road hitting the hood on the
passenger side of van. The deer cartwheeled off
the side of
the road,

expectancy.”
