Hallo! Guten Tag! Wie heiβt du?

Children at Causeway Green Primary learn
to speak German. We start early in school
with songs and games, progressing to
more formal, regular language lessons in
Key Stage 2.
By combining learning about language
with learning about German culture, we
focus on developing skills in speaking,
listening, reading and writing in a fun and
engaging way.
Our Key Stage 2 German curriculum
Throughout our units of work, the children gradually
develop their linguistic skills moving from learning single
words, to phrases, to developing sentences and
eventually writing whole paragraphs of text. Children
learn to respond to instructions, express their opinions,
make comparisons, and to ask and answer questions.
We teach children to decipher the meaning of spoken
and written language using a range of skills, rather than
relying on knowing every single word. We also teach a
range of aspects of grammar, including learning about
the gender of nouns. The skills we develop in our
language lessons are applicable to the learning of any
language, it is only the vocabulary which is specific to the
German language.
