US Presidents Database Project Objective: Demonstrate the ability to create a database file containing a table, custom report, and form using MS Access. The database will contain information on ALL 44 Presidents of the US. Grading: This counts as a project grade. It will be graded for the items listed below. Each item will use a 25 point scale (4 items x 25 points = 100 points total). For each error, 2 points will be deducted. Directions: 1. Create a database file in your Access folder called US Presidents. 2. Create a table called President Data by Your First and Last Name. The structure of the table is shown below. Structure of President Data Table Data Primary Field Field Name Description of Data Field Type Key Size Order of Presidency **note: enter President # Text Yes 2 single digits as 01, 02, etc. Last Name Text President’s last name 25 First Name Text President’s First Name 25 Political Party Text Political Party Affiliation 15 Religion Text Declared Religious Affiliation 15 Birth City Text City or town President was born in 25 State President was born in **note: Birth State Text 2 use 2­letter abbreviation Number of children President Kids Number had/has Check box if served in any military Military Yes/No branch 3. Using Google, search for “US Presidents”. You will probably need to use more than one site to find all the information to fill in your table. 4. Once you have your data, adjust all the column widths to best fit the data. Save the changes. 5. Create a report for your table using the Report Wizard. Include the following fields in your report: President Number, Last Name, First Name, Birth City and Birth State. Sort the report by President Number. Title the report Where Presidents Were Born, Your First and Last Name. Make sure the report fits on one page only. Print the report.
6. Create a second report for your table using the Report Wizard. Include the following fields in your report: President Number, Last Name, First Name, and Religion. Sort the report by President Number. Title the report President Religious Affiliations, Your First and Last Name. Make sure the report fits on one page only. Print the report. 7. Create a form for the table. Save it with the name US Presidents Form. Close the form. 8. Open your table and bring it up in Print Preview mode. Click File – Page Setup. On the Margins Tab, change all 4 margins to .5 inches. On the Page Tab, choose Landscape. Make sure your table fits on two pages only. Your name should be in the header as part of the table name. Print the table. 9. Staple the two reports and the table together and turn it in. Make sure the three print outs are in the same order as these directions, as it is part of your grade. 10.The form will be graded from your Z drive; there is no need to print it.
