INDUCTION CHECKLIST Welcome to Queen Margaret University. Below you will find a list of the important things that you should do to complete the induction process. If at any time you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff. Department / Task Student Card: Visit the Registry Information Point (opposite Finance) on Level 1 in order to receive your Student Card. Please note that you will need to have completed matriculation in order to receive your card. You can complete Matriculation by using any of the computers in the Atrium or LRC or via the QMU Website (www.qmu.ac.uk/registry/matriculation.htm). Please note that you must bring photographic ID in order to receive your Student Card. You should also request a copy of the Guide to Student Services when you collect your card. International fee paying students MUST bring their passport, original certificates and immigration documents or proof that a visa extension application has been made to UKVI. It is not possible to issue a student card until the University can verify that you are legally permitted to study at Queen Margaret University. You can also ask to speak to someone from the International Office when you are collecting your student card if you have any enquiries. International Students: If you are an International Student and would like to meet somebody from the International Office, please be advised that drop in sessions are offered on Mondays 2.00pm – 5.00pm and Thursdays 10.00am – 12.00noon within the Student Services area. Outside of these times you can make an appointment by emailing [email protected]. Students on a Tier 4 Student Visa will be required to go to a pre indicated Post Office to collect their Biometric Identity Document (BID) within ten days of arrival in the UK. Although you will be able to matriculate without showing the University your BID, you will be required to show it to the Registry Information Desk by Friday 9th September. If you fail to show your BID your IT access will be restricted. Learning Resource Centre (Library): Visit the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). The LRC is located next to Main Reception. The staff at the LRC can give you the contact details of your Liaison Librarian and give you information on how to access electronic resources. LRC staff can also help you with any computer related questions that you may have. The School Office can also assist with any queries you have about your timetable ([email protected]). Instructions on how to view your personalised timetable (iCal) can also be found via the above link. School Office: You can view the School Office Induction presentation via the following link: http://www.qmu.ac.uk/school-office/default.htm You can also find the presentation via the Quick Links drop down menu on the home page of our website (www.qmu.ac.uk). Please select School Office. The presentation can then be viewed at the bottom of the first page. Health Sciences Programmes Only (students with clinical placements): You may have already completed the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme application. Please check with the Pre-Placement Support Officer, located in the School Office, about your application status. The School Office is located opposite Main Reception or email – [email protected] Uniform Fitting - You will need to be fitted for your uniform as required for your placements. Please contact the Pre-Placement Support Officer to arrange a suitable time - [email protected]. Health clearance – Compulsory screening and vaccinations for all new Health Care workers who will have direct contact with patients. You will be advised of the date and time of your appointments by email, issued from [email protected] so please look out for this important information. If you have any queries regarding your appointment, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible. Make contact with your Programme Leader: If you are unsure who this is, please visit the School Office (opposite Main Reception) where the staff will be happy to advise you. Make contact with your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT): You can do this via the student portal. This is a key contact person for you. You should contact your PAT to arrange a time for you to meet. The portal can be accessed via the Quick Links drop down menu on our website (please select QM:u Student Portal). The School Office can also advise you of your PAT. Hub: Hub is an online learning environment and is a key part of studying at QMU. You can learn more about Hub at drop in sessions during Induction Week and during the first week of teaching (12.15 Monday - Friday in room 1127). Room 1127 can be found at the back of the LRC. More information can also be found at (http://www.qmu.ac.uk/cap/Hub.htm) Doctoral Students If you are studying on either the PhD or Professional Doctorate programme, and have been unable to attend the Doctoral Induction Week (Monday 19th to Friday 23rd September 2016) please contact [email protected] for further assistance. Student Funding / Tuition Fees If you have a query about your tuition fees or funding, please make contact with Registry ([email protected]). If you need to set up a Direct Debit or Payment Plan you should visit the Finance Desk or email [email protected]. Both the Registry and Finance desks are located on Level One. Further Questions..?
