William Conklin Page 1 of 6 Liz, Wellness coaching was a way for me to learn how to identify and set 'achievable' goals toward my health; I learned that goals should be small enough to achieve and, if possible, challenging as well. Sometimes I need more of a challenge, and sometimes I did not. Liz, you helped to point out that too large of a goal may cause frustration and/or just giving up. One of the hardest parts of wellness coaching for me was to come up with specific incremental goals, but these goals helped me to work towards my larger goal. Liz, you guided me well and I learned a lot. Since then, I do not hesitate to set my incremental goals and/or my larger goals. I also find that if I make a small goal, most of time, I overachieve which makes me feel even better. I believe that is a bit of psychology. ;-) ~Karen Paulus Liz - You are an inspiration to us all and I have so enjoyed getting to know you =) . I met with you during a tough time in my life where I was overwhelmed with multiple things and needed "clarity". Meeting with you as a Wellness Coach gave me perspective and an opportunity to answer the tough questions I kept putting off : "What is important to you?", "How can you make this happen"? "What career goals do you have?" Knowing I was now accountable to answer these questions caused me to dig deep and really evaluate my life. You helped me see that the things I thought were "happening to me" were really still in "my control" and I had a choice to participate in them or create a new path for myself. This empowered me to make the decisions I needed to make to change or accept these things in my life. I realize life is a process, but it sure is nice to have someone to help you gain perspective now and then. You are truly gifted at what you do and I wish you all the best! A.P. Liz, I was thinking about letting you know how you impacted my life. Although my changes did not happen right away, several of the lessons I learned during our time together never left my head and made an impact in my life. Last January 2013, I started Weight Watchers and exercising, again..... However, this time I was able to stay with it and not get so Page 2 of 6 discouraged when I wasn't as "good" as I wanted to be. I am proud to say, as of today (one year later), I have lost 30 pounds and am exercising 4-5 days every week. I have never felt better!! The lessons/tools I carry with me from you are as follows: 1. Try to avoid "distracted" eating. 2. I don't think I've eaten a frozen lunch since our sessions...and am enjoying my food much more. 3. Started moving more...and am not always just walking. My husband and I joined a gym and I have incorporated stairs, elliptical, and strength. We started riding our bikes to Old Town on the weekends last summer for breakfast together. I also hiked Horsetooth 3 times last summer (I have lived in Fort Collins all of my life and had never hiked to the Tooth before). Finally, my 18 and 21 year old children, husband, and I all did the Turkey Trot in Grand Junction together this year. I'm constantly looking for new and different ways to MOVE. I want you to know your kind, gentle and non-judging personality really did make a difference for me and I really appreciate the time we spent together. ~Tammy Olivas P.S. One more thing I forgot to add.... I have changed how I view "weight loss." Although the scale does still "haunt" me from time to time, I am trying to focus more on how I "feel" after I make a healthy food choice or after I have exercised. The wellness coaching with Liz was a great experience. It was great to have someone push me to set reasonable goals and then help me find ways to meet them and hold me accountable. It was also nice to go beyond the typical just weight and exercise approach to wellness and have an outlet for help in other areas. Rob N. Working with Liz has been a blessing. She has taught me lifestyles changes, implemented in small steps. She took the time to listen to my personal needs and help me design a plan based on my personal habits and goals. Liz looks at more than just eating better or exercising more, she took time to look at ways to improve my mental health and tools to use to reduce stress on an ongoing basis. Her coaching was more than giving the tools; it was personal and specifically designed to work in my life, not a cookie cutter approach. I appreciated the one-on-one sessions. Liz is well versed in other resources in the Page 3 of 6 community for proper referrals. I would recommend Liz to anyone looking for a personal plan for all around better wellness… both physically and mentally. ~Milissa Carlson I worked for several months with Liz as my wellness coach. My health issues were about weight and stress. She helped me to build more confidence in my abilities to affect my situation, as well as provided me tools I continue to use. Liz has a positive attitude and innate wisdom, backed by sensitivity, honesty, and compassion. She creates a sense of ease, using a step by step approach that made my goals seem doable and attainable. She had a plan that helped us stay focused, but she was organic not rigid. She was always able to adapt to sessions that moved into different and valuable directions, and then could bring everything back together into a cohesive whole. I loved that she would always send me a timely summary of our sessions, so I didn't have to take notes, unless I really wanted to. I would highly recommend Liz DeJongh as a coach to anyone who really wants to move themselves forward in self-care, wholeness, and wellness. Good luck to you in everything you do -- family and career. You are such a valuable person and it's a pleasure to know you. Jori K. Here are the words that I truly mean! I had the opportunity to have Liz as my Wellness Coach a couple of years ago. It was a very rewarding experience for me. Liz is so supportive, informative, non-judgmental and caring! She truly invests her time and devotion into her clients. She roots for you and cheers you on and lets you know that she is behind you 100 percent!! She inspired me to be better, to do better and to, in fact, become my best. Liz always had great information for me, new recipes for me to try and always cheerful, uplifting words of encouragement. I absolutely would recommend Liz for any venture that she pursues, especially Wellness Coaching or anything along those lines. She is incredibly knowledgeable on anything wellness related! ~Kate Page 4 of 6 Having a wellness coach has worked much better for me than traditional therapy. I have a lot of addiction and recovery experience in my life and career, and I tend to get overwhelmed when I want to instantly fix things for myself during times of grief and severe stress. With wellness coaching, I can make goals with intelligent guidance and great suggestions from the coach. This allows me to focus in on myself, one or two small steps at a time, without having to dredge up years of my past history so the therapist can get to know me. I can start where I am at this very moment bringing my own experience to the wellness work plan. Elizabeth (Liz) DeJongh is a terrific coach who is a caring and compassionate person. She is genuine and practical, with modern suggestions for a 'strong willed' woman like me! I used her twice for 3 or 6 month coaching sessions after the death of two family members in the past 3 years. She kept me accountable, listened to my updates and affirmed that I could learn from my personal stress. She helped me reframe some of my thinking about my body, mind and bad habits. She was good at asking me how she could support me and if I wanted her suggestions and ideas as they came up in order to remove my own barriers to success. Each meeting she would point out how I reached my own goals and had me focusing in on success, not guilt. I always left feeling confident and reassured, inspired to continue with my own vision! I look forward to working with her again in the future. ~ Christina Ulrich-Jones Dear Liz, One thing I learned from my coaching experience with you is that lasting behavioral change often occurs by taking small, baby steps and gaining confidence as each step is accomplished/completed/mastered. Taking stock of my confidence level was an eye-opener for me, too, as I never really thought much about how that related to change. As I became more confident by taking small/do-able steps, then my confidence increased and that made success even more possible as I went along. I can honestly say that I'm in better health now than when you started coaching me. With the help of Weight Watchers, I have lost weight and kept it off and continue to work towards getting down to an ideal weight. I probably exercise more now, and more consistently, than I ever have in my adult life. Additionally, healthy eating has become a good habit, not one that I'm trying to attain. Thanks for the many years of hard work that you've put into the Larimer County Wellness Program! It's a great success! ~Debra Marsden Page 5 of 6 Working with Liz was very helpful in beginning to tackle life issues in a more productive way. It wasn’t therapy, per se, but was very helpful in identifying life choice changes I could make and seeing where progress was happening. When I get overwhelmed I tend to treat myself in a healthier manner and then since I'm too overwhelmed to manage things it just snowballs. Doing wellness coaching was very helpful in seeing the positive and making incremental changes. Liz in particular is very skilled at this work. She has a wonderful presence and is non-judgmental on life choices. She is a perfect sounding board and accountability platform for life coaching! ~Deb Callies Page 6 of 6
