That’s right, you look for it in a hope that you will find it and be reunited with whatever it is that you have lost. In 2009, almost a quarter of adults (22% of men and 24% of women aged 16 or over) in England were classified as obese. I myself have suffered with overeating and binge eating disorder and actually ended up in rehab to face my food addiction. For many many years I was hungry for love not food; this was due to my childhood which you can read about in my book Hungry for Love. Is it because you have just had a baby? Have you had a weight problem for as long as you can remember? Are you an emotional eater? Are you addicted to food? Are you currently experiencing a lot of stress in your life? Do you lead an active or sedentary lifestyle? Are your portions sizes too large? Do you have an overactive thyroid? Or do you eat too much of one type of food group? Are your meals well balanced? Do you tend to eat a lot of processed food? Are you hooked on junk food? There are many things to think about when it comes to your specific weight problem. No two people are the same, so no run of the mill diet is necessarily going to work for you. It is important that one can identify their reason for carrying excess weight. Some Answers and Solutions There are many reasons why one is overweight or obese. CBT is a form of therapy that is proven to help and recommended by the UK National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Hypnotherapy is also a successful method proven to work for some people. If your relationship with food has been unhealthy for many years then you may want to consider rehab. Many people do not realise that food addiction can be just as serious as alcohol and drug addiction. Life coaching is another form of treatment that can help those who have developed certain bad habits and need to set up new healthy habits as well as some form of structure to improve their lifestyle. A nutritionist can also assist in identifying particular problem foods and subsequently formulate a healthy eating plan that suits your particular body type. Before embarking on any exercise regime or a new way of eating it is advisable that you seek medical advice first especially if you suffer from any of the ailments listed earlier. If this does not suit you, then you could try the 5:2 fast, where you eat for five days in the week and fast for two days in the week. Or another option is to eat all of your food for the day by 4pm. It is best to try out what suits you best, so experiment with this. Eliminate sugar, white flour products and processed foods – this is the most effective way to release excess weight. Natural products are best, and supplements may also aid in the efficient release of weight. Chromium supports sugar metabolism, kelp supports weight management. The chlorophyll from the green vegetables is essential for the human body to function well. Here are a few green juice recipes. You can mix and blend whatever you like, ensure that you have more greens and vegetables than fruit. You can alternate the spinach with kale or better still spirulina which is high in protein, amino acids and other nutrients. Cucumber Celery Avocado* Spinach * Lime Pineapple Spinach/kelp Cucumber Carrots** Orange Pineapple Spinach Cucumber Celery Banana* Pineapple Cucumber Celery Spinach Avocado Carrots Apple Pear Watermelon Cucumber Ginger Mint Beetroot Lemon *Blend avocado and spinach once other items have been juiced **Carrots are good if you suffer from high blood pressure Copyright Yvonne J Douglas 2015 Play around with your ingredients and use fruits and vegetables that you like, use more vegetables than fruits. You can add things like turmeric, cinnamon, seeds, nuts, cocoa powder, vanilla and honey; all with different healing properties. Take care of your colon!! You can use colon cleanse products to do this, have a colonic irrigation twice a year or have regular home enemas. You can purchase home enema kits for under £15. Cleansing your colon is a good way to kick starts your body into a healthier way of living. It helps get rid of harmful toxins and pollutants, decreases gas and bloating; subsequently giving you a flatter stomach. It helps you release excess weight more easily and naturally as well as energising you. Focussed Eating Eat slowly and consciously!!! Chew each mouthful at least 20 times. Do not be distracted whilst eating, distractions make you eat more than you realise, especially the television, so turn it off, put your phone and laptops away and focus on your eating. Chew slowly and allow your body to take the nutrients it needs in order to function well. As mentioned earlier depending on the source and cause of your excess weight determines which product or treatment you should use. Rather than relying solely on the products I would highly recommend dealing with the cause at the source either through therapy or life coaching and the products can be used as an aid. Do not under estimate the power of emotional eating. When eating on your emotions, you are trying to fill an emotional gap and it will never feel full with food because that gap does not need food. Remember food is for fuelling the body only. I would like to emphasise dealing with the core issues of your emotional eating in order to get rid of them once and for all! Remember that you cannot fill the emotional and spiritual gap with food and if you have had a life long battle with overeating and binge eating, which are also eating disorders this new way of eating can be daunting. Have a support network around you to help with any emotional issues that may and probably will come up for you. Releasing weight is not just about the weight, it has a lot to do with your relationship with food. It would be very beneficial for you to do a food journal where you list the time of day, Copyright Yvonne J Douglas 2015 what you ate, why you ate it, what you were thinking and feeling at the time, also note down how you felt after eating a particular food.
