Driving from Dunedin or Queenstown takes just 2½ hours through some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. About Southland Southland is New Zealand’s southernmost region that spans the breath of the South Island. Much of the regions uniqueness lies in the ever-changing backdrops – vistas so different, it’s difficult to imagine you’re in the same country, let alone the same region. It’s like a dozen destinations rolled into one. Invercargill, Southlands largest urban centre, has a population of over 50,000, and buzzes with the prosperity of a thriving economy. The inner city is the attractive and vibrant heart of the city and has all the benefits of city life with few of the drawbacks. We have some great facilities in the city and the surrounding area. Invercargill is home to one of the most beautiful inner city parks; Queens Park is a five minute walk from the central city and offers visitors a chance to stroll around the Rose Garden or a leisurely walk through the aviary and gardens. Innovative initiatives such as Zero Fees and state of the art sporting facilities have also created a WOW factor. Encompassing the world heritage listed Fiordland National Park - the home of Milford and Doubtful Sounds; the Catlins, the Southern Scenic Route; and Stewart Island - Rakiura National Park, Southland offers a real New Zealand experience – including thrilling jet boat rides on some of the most amazing waterways in the country. Take a drive on the Southern Scenic Route, the Catlins or bring your bike and ride on the Around the Mountains Cycle Trail. The landscape also offers incredible 4WD adventures and of course some of the most spectacular walking tracks in the world – many of which are in National Parks. If you are looking for a more relaxed stay – try Invercargill’s cafes and restaurants or visit the fantastic museum, shop in Winton and lunch amid some beautiful gardens, or visit a world-renowned gallery in Gore. Play a leisurely round of golf or get that bike out and be one of the first to cycle the Around the Mountains Cycle trail in Northern Southland - enjoying cafes and quirky shops along the trail. Add to that the wealth of delicious food and drink available in our region and it adds up to a great conference for 2016.
