Presbyterian Church is holding its
annual supper at the churc h on Thursday, August 28.
An inspiring sermon was del ivered
by the Rev . Charles Lovell at the
Trinity Methodist church S unday
Morning entitled , "Can "We Receive
the Answer to Prayer?" It is planned
that those who are j oining the churc h
will be taken in on the first Sunday
in September. In preparation foi this ,
a meeting will b-e held at the e-hurch
on Sunday afternoon , August 24, at
A p.m . All those who plan on joining
the church are urged to come if possible.
A meeting will be hel d at the s choolhouse on August 22 at 8 p.m. to vote
on the proposition of whether the trustees, shall beirin a kindergarten in
September for children 5 years old.
The Goodfellowship club attended
the funeral of t]ie mother of one of
their members, Stanley Eberhardt , on
Thursday. Mr.s. Emma Eberhardt died
at her home last Tuesday and funeral
services were held at the Pettit
Funeral home in Patchogue Thu rsday
night.
Mr. and Mrs. George Doelling left
for their home in Indiana, 111., Sunday, after spending some time at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wittschach.
Paul Hoffm an is confined to his
home by illness.
A party for 15 children was held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 0. Lindquist in Sound Beach on August i) in
honor of the eighth birthday of their
granddaughter, Miss Linda Wessman
of Coram .
Mr. and Mrs. Joh n Ruegger attended the clambake given by the Hagerman Fire department last Sunda./.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merkel . and
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Merkel of B rooklyn spent the weekend at their bungalow in Pennyquid.
The Allen Merkel s are on their vacation so will be here the rest o-f the
week.
Mrs. William Nilsson is recuperating at her home from an appendectomy
performed at the Mather Memorial
hospital recently.
Theodore Nilssc-n of Hempstead- died
Thursday at the Meadowbrook hospital ahd was -buried in the East
Hempstead cemetery Saturday. He
was well known here as he resided
here many years ago. He was the
brother of William Nilsson of Co-ram,
supervising foreman in the Island

with a profession al master of ceremonies in charge. Installati on of the
outdoor lighting is expected to be
completed in time for this affair , and
part of the program will revolve
around out-door activities.
The long anticipated ping pong
tournament has been postponed , and
is now scheduled for the August 2!)
weekend. Additional entries are still
being received , and local teams are
practising regularl y for this tourna ment, which promises to be hotly contested.

for their work during the pust year.

A luncheon was served on Friday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Sperry of Middle Country road , The
Ridge, in honor of their granddaughter's first birthday. Baby Georgette received many beautiful gifts,
which were opened by her mother after
the luncheon was served. Guests attending were Mr. and Mrs . George
Tlayer of Hollis, parents of the little
guest of honor ; Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Sperry, Sr., Mrs. Edward Sperry, Jr.,
and son , Edward III, and Mrs . Edward Keeney. Georgette was photographed in many different poses- during the luncheon and opening of the
gifts.
..On August 10 Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Keeney of Medford road , The Ridge,
celebrated tlieir twenty-third anniversary.
Mrs, Theodore Snyder of Bayport
was a guest of the Misses Anna and
Elizabeth Denton on August 13, which
was the twenty-sixth anniversary of
the marriage of Miss Anna Frost , a
friend of the Dentons to Theodore
Snyder, a soldier at Camp Upton in
the first "World War. This was thc
last ivedding at the Presbyterian
Manse in Yaphank while the Rev.
James Denton was pastor.
The committee of the Yaphank
Cemetery association has had considerable work done recently. A fine job
has been done on the undergrowth.

The Blue Point Baptist Sunday
school enjoyed its annual picnic last
Wednesday. About 80 members and
friends spent the day at Sunken
Meadow State park , making the trip
by bus. After a picnic dinner , games
and swimming were enjoyed.
Duane Hawkins, principal of the
Blue Poi nt school, announces the opening of school Monday, September 8, at
9 a.m. New registrants should report
September 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. The
school census of children from birth
to 18 years is being taken the coming
weeks by Mrs. Charlotte Wagner,
census taker , who will visit the homes.
