CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the
Research 1.1.1. Justification of the Research We know that
in communication we use language. In this world, there are
kinds of languages, even in one country has several of different language. But, in globalization era, international language which is used and known by every country is English.
Most of books, magazines, newspapers, articles, computer
programs and movies are in English. Language is made
by and for human beings. Language is used for expression
our idea, opinion, desire, hope, feeling, and humans activities. Translators translated from source language into
target language in order to make the reader understand
the message of source language. So, people can easier to
understand the meaning of the text. In English language
or Indonesian there is one way for securing variety in written expression, and it is called as figure of speech that also
can be found in any other languages. Because any figure
of speech introduces an ambiguity between literal and figurative interpretation. Some important figure of speech are
simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole and symbol.
There are many kinds of translation strategies such as literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation,
adaption, free translation, idiomatic translation, and communicative translation. The writer chose similes as her
research because we can use similes to make descriptions
more empathic or vivid and to draw attention to similarities about two things that are seemingly dissimilar.
The word simile is derived from the latin word Simile,
meaning resemblance and likenesses, technically it means
the comparison of two objects with some similarities.

CHAPTER II THEORITICAL REVIEW 2.1 Definition
of Translation Based on Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary (1995), translation means the activity of translating about errors in translation from different language to
target language. According to A. Widyamartaya (1991)
in Seni Menerjemahkan, translation is the meaning and
the style or tone that is expressed in the target language
(language of the receiver) should not deviate from the
meaning and the style or tone that is expressed in the
source language. Translation by dictionary definition of
Merriam-Webster Dictionary, consist of changing from one
state or form to another, to turn into ones own or anothers language.(1974) Based on Newmark (1988:5) London,
translation is rendering the meaning of text into another
language in the way that the author intended the text.
Based on above, the writer that can make a summary
translation means activity of translating of style or tone
that is expressed in the source language into target language. Translation originally means the conversion of one
language into another; often used specifically with reference to written texts, as opposed to the interpretation of
spoken language. There are various types of translation:
word-for-word translation, in which each word is found an
equivalent, carrying over the grammatical and lexical features of the original, often makes little sense, because it
breaks the structural rules of the target language; for example, Welsh mae hi yn bwrw hen wragedd a ffynn would
translate as is she in rain old women sticks. Literal translation adheres to the linguistic structure of the original, but
transposes it into the appropiate grammatical conventions
of the target language; the above example would give she is
raining old women and sticks. Free translation translates
the sense of the text, relaxing shackles of strict linguistic
equivalence, and seeks an idiomatic
equivalent for the Welsh expression,.......

original and source text which covers a study on strategies
translation. Faithful and communicative research are
included in this strategies translation study. As it was
described in the definition of terms that faithful means
transfers cultural words the degree of grammatical and
lexical in translation and communicative translation
means translate the words, phrase, and sentence in
language are readily acceptable and comprehensible to the
readership. 3.2 Source of Data The data of this research
was taken from two websites, i.e : a. The first one was retrieved in http://www.scribd.com/doc/34485506/EnglishSimiles-List b.

of translating. d. During the course of translating the
text, the researcher regularly consults her advisor to discuss problems she encounters referring to the task undertaken. e. These problematic items were analyzed and then
the researcher gave plausible reason as to the solving of
these problems. 3.4 Tecniques of Analyzing Data The researcher collected the data from the translated text which
poses problems for the researcher.the data collected were
then sorted out for the most crucial ones that cause difficulties for the researcher. After collecting the data, the
researcher analyzes the data by doing: a. Collect the data,
the data were listed in the table randomly. b. Translating
the data by the theories and dictionary which.......
