provide our community quality water and customer service.
Overall Purpose of the Job: To read commercial and residential meters throughout the entire District;
maintain and perform minor repairs to meter, meter box facilities and automated meter reading (AMR)
devices throughout the District; and respond to customer inquiries regarding topics such as, water leaks,
and other general water system trouble shooting for customers.
This position has been identified as safety sensitive because one or more of the following are essential
functions of the position: Operating heavy equipment, operation of a commercial vehicle, setting up
work zone traffic control, confined space work, trenching and excavation work, operation of a forklift,
flagging, working with water treatment chemicals, driving (as a primary function of the position).
Essential Job Functions:
 Conduct accurate reading of residential and commercial water meters, which includes the
operation of the "data collector" hand held meter reading device and the operation of a motor
vehicle.
 Perform meter maintenance activities, including trouble shooting, minor repair and/or
replacement of residential and commercial meters, maintaining, repairing, installing meter
boxes, installing AMR and trimming landscaping away from meters and meter boxes.
 Perform customer service related activities, including conducting special meter reading tasks
(re-check readings), responding to customer inquiries regarding billing, water leak, water service
and other similar functions; and follow-up as needed.
 Read an average of 400 meters per day with 99.5% accuracy.
 Transfer information to and from data collectors to a personal computer.
 Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
 Knowledge of basic mechanical repairs.
 Knowledge of safety practices and procedures applicable to the job.
 Knowledge of personnel, administrative and departmental policies.
 Knowledge of basic computer operations and Microsoft Office.
 Skill in customer relations and communications, including the ability to effectively and tactfully
work with difficult customers and complex customer issues.
 Ability to download and upload data collectors competently.
 Ability to read and interpret maps.

Ability to accurately read and record numerical and written information.
Ability to accurately and legibly transfer information into a written format.

Minimum Requirements:
 High School Diploma or equivalent; and
 Minimum of one year experience in customer service, construction or maintenance; or
 Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge,
skills and abilities required to perform the work.
Special Qualifications:
 Possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Oregon; have and maintain a safe driving record.
Working Conditions:
 Have regular and predictable attendance.
 Work in all types of weather conditions, and perform tasks requiring moderate physical
exertion, including repetitive lifting, digging and kneeling on a daily basis.
 Respond and work, without advanced notice, in times of adverse weather, natural disaster,
emergency, or other unusual event as determined by the District.
 Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or kneeling.
 Operate, read information and focus on a personal computer, telephone, and other related
equipment.
 Daily verbal communications both in person and on the telephone.
 Perform physical tasks as described on attached form.
 Perform optional week-end duty if requirements are met.
